Ohio closing all bars and restaurants, limited to carry out/delivery. Really feel for my server and bartender friends. Right thing to do but I don’t know what they’ll do.

 

You would think the Fed would learn that nothing they do right now will help the stock market. It's in shambles and is going to keep going down. All we can hope is that this crazy time ends sooner rather than later and it can start going back up

 

do you think rolling back unemployment requirements will help the one’s who work for companies that refuse to do the humane thing and compensate them for time off?

 

I’m not sure if Ohio counts tips toward wages. I know some states do and some don’t. So that really isn’t a great option for service workers. Plus getting only a portion of regular wages for people living paycheck to paycheck isn’t going to work for very long (unemployment doesn’t pay you 100% of your wages, in Ohio it’s only 50%). Just sucks. Limited UBI for laid off workers and unemployed is the way to go imo

 

it depends, if the companies fire them or they quit maybe, but ik at least in Michigan as long as you are hired in at a company officially you can’t get unemployment. Or maybe that’s just a MSU thing

 

But that’s why you’d roll back the requirements. Either way unemployment probably isn’t going to be enough for people, especially in the service industry.

 

My students are going to sit on their phones all day every day until we go back to school. I know I sound old.

Polis is doing a solid job in Colorado at handling this. Closing the ski resorts was the right move, but he should probably put in place some bar and restaurant closures. Honestly it’s something pretty much every state should have done before St. Patty’s Day weekend.
