Admitted to myself that I might be starting to have feelings for a friend. Was talking to friend today and he mentioned he was down. Turns out he has feelings for a mutual friend and it's really shitty for him. Proceed to feel shitty as well.

People of that nature know what they're doing when they portray themselves in a particular light. They are, in effect, predators. Most people don't recognize it until an occurrence happens. So, as Ian said, it isn't your fault or anything for which you should take responsibility. He needs to be held accountable. He was the problem.
