damn. was hoping for best coast. snoozed on getting tickets for their show tomorrow at thalia hall.

 

Spanish Love Songs announced a Chicago show on April 17. I still hope they play Riot Fest too

 

City & Colour had teased about the 15 year for Sometimes... Hear me out, I know they announced the one show in Toronto but they never said it was the only performance and Riot Fest liked the post about it on instagram. Anyone think that's still a possibility?

I know they will have played Chicago twice already, but I still think there's a decent shot they wind up playing. They're really swinging for it with this new album and it would be a great opportunity to get in front of a bunch of new people.

It makes them a little less likely, but I'm still feeling it.

I don't see why not. Both Alexisonfire and City & Colour have played in the past. I'm not totally convinced that would be such a massive draw in Chicago like it is in Toronto but... Admittedly, I kinda don't have the best sense of how popular he even is in the states.

 

Bands like Spanish Love Songs aren't really moving tickets for Riot Fest on their own, plus the lineup won't even be announced before that show, so I don't think it has much impact. If I had to bet, I'd put SLS on the lineup.

 

Oh, for sure. I was just saying that will have been their third time in Chicago in a year if they were to play... Typically, I would say that rules a band out but given where the band is at and what they seem to be shooting for in terms of pushing this new album it would make sense for them to do that with an opportunity like Riot Fest.

 

Hmmm, I'm not seeing it at all on the RF twitter or SLS twitter. What's the venue?

How are they playing Cobra again after selling it out last time? The NIL did the same thing, must be a weird Riot Fest presents gap between venue sizes

 

I wasn't there but I don't think they sold out Cobra last time?

 

Ya as far as riot fest shows the only next step up really would be Bottom Lounge which still feels slightly too big for them. Lincoln Hall would be a good intermediate step, but if they're sticking with RF that explains that.

 

May have sold out at the door but not in advance. It was definitely crowded. Pretty sure this one will though.

 

Yeah I'm hopping on early to make sure I don't miss this one.

 

He's played near here (OKC) in Tulsa at Cain's twice in the past and has sold out both times but it's only 1800 cap. Although, that's not that huge and it's been a few years but he seems to consistently draw well in a smaller market. Not sure if that means anything either lol

 

An 1800 cap venue is pretty big when you're talking about a singer/songwriter who doesn't really get any radio airplay or any sort of major marketing push behind them. Looked it up and last time he was in Boston he sold out a 1,200 capacity venue. So I'd say that lines up pretty well (the next biggest venue is our HOB which is a 2,500 cap room) and probably means they would be a bit of a draw as an album play, too.

 

Not at all surprising, and I'm glad the industry seems to be taking the right steps/precautions here. This is definitely going to impact the Lolla announcement, and potentially Riot Fest...

Though that's likely happening in May, so I don't think they would be one of the festivals in question. Not yet, anyway.

I know we all have way more important things to worry about, but I'm curious to see how this is going to impact the music industry, artists, etc.

 

It’s most def lolla related. I could see a mid April announcement for tickets and lineup. I don’t think riot fest changes their plans. At least not yet

 

Based on what I've read, I am thinking Riot Fest's plans for the festival itself will probably be (mostly) okay though I wonder if bands/artists having to change their touring schedules/cancel dates over the next few months might shake up the line-up some.

Which could delay the line-up announcement. I could also see them pushing it out if this is still on an upswing at the time it's scheduled for...

Yeah I think the biggest obstacle from them is other festivals and tours getting rescheduled, which could double book bands. Honestly, I’m expecting a more condensed lineup than usual. It would be a smart route to get real genre specific this year, and book a ton of smaller bands from the same niche scene/sound.

 

I don't think other festivals re-scheduling will be a major issue for them, assuming artists are already locked in. I just don't see an act saying "Okay, Festival X is postponed to the weekend of the 11th. We were planning on playing Riot Fest but now? Ehhhhh, let's play this one instead!" I think the impact will mostly be on revised tour routings, etc.

Most other festivals don't have a lot of overlap with Riot Fest usually. Holistically, a lot of Riot Fest acts do play other festivals but the amount of overlap with a single festival is generally pretty small from what I've seen (4-6 acts at the absolute most).

Going "real genre specific" would be a good idea too, but I kinda think they did that with the line-up last year? It certainly felt like it leaned a lot more toward the whole "punk/emo/hardcore" thing more than it had the last few years. Obviously, I'm being very very broad with that statement but... I would be pretty pumped if they went with a similar approach this year.

 

I'm surprised that Chicago shows haven't been cancelled yet. Today I will go to Every Time I Die and on Sunday to The Wonder Years and I was expecting to at least have one of them cancelled by now

 

The Killers tour dates popping up. Anyone see anything for Chicago? They're coming to Nashville 9/19 so they're in the area.

EDIT: Nope, they're out. United Center 9/23.
