Haha yeah I would probably want to leave too but tbh I don't know what I would do in that situation. I guess I just feel that the scenario was presented realistically enough that it seemed believable to me and didn't break my immersion into the film at all.

She was telling her friends how she coped with losing her child, I think it's totally believable that they didn't walk out. That would be pretty mean considered they were all close friends.

On the surface of it, the hosts of the party did seem pretty friendly and accommodating. The main character probably came across as confrontational/paranoid to the others... I mean the other guests did show him some sympathy throughout the movie. It's not like they were all total dicks to him. Again, I think this was all presented in a totally believable way, I had no problem with the guests all choosing to stay in the house.

 

I'm pretty excited for this. Miami is doing a film festival and bringing in more than a few good films. Popcorn Frights Film Festival.

I've seen most classic horror movies. Any hidden/unknown gems on Amazon Prime or Netflix that I should check out? I prefer movies that scare the living shit out of me.

Watched Viral. The actors were decent for the most part, but the movie overall was blah.

About to watch Critters for the first time. I've wanted to see this since I was a kid.

 

I really liked As Above/ So Below. I like that it went high concept and I sort of regret reading spoilers a year ago.

 

Yea, the film had a lot more meat on the bones than I expected. I was pleasantly surprised

 

Watched Darling the other night and I still can't land a concrete opinion on how I feel about it.

 

Watched The Lazarus Effect for the first time today, thought it was interesting. Seems like such a great cast was sort of wasted though.

 

Okay so The Invitation was wonderful

 

Agreed, I got to see it last year at a festival and I was very surprised by it.

 

We are living in a new golden age of horror.

 

I really like Logan Marshall-Green. I don't wish for him to be type-casted or anything, but I'd like to see him do more horror.

 

Yeah, I thought the acting was really, really good

 

In reference to someone mentioning As Above/So Below-- I enjoyed it a lot and have seen it a few times, but I still have a hard time getting past how the main character (Scarlett?) basically turned into 60's Batman and Robin whenever it came to the off-the-wall (no pun intended) levels of layered deduction to decipher the clues and riddles presented to them.

Example: Looking at the ancient headstone in the museum... "Hmmm, the key is on his back... wait, the key is on the back! Now let's yank it down, pour the janitor's cleaning products on it, and light it on fire to find the hidden riddle!"

...and it friggin' worked.

 

Hahaha. I didn't notice it to be that glaring of an issue. But that is hilarious.

 

I'm covering Fantasia Fest this year and there have been some real standouts, but The Alchemist Cookbook and White Coffin are far and above the rest.

 

I never understood the hate for this, the idea was original.

 

I don't really think anyone in here hated it.
