I know you say "appear" but that seems a little drastic after one single, no? I mean, who knows what this will sound like in context with the rest of the album. you can not like the song, but that does not mean it's a failure across the board.

mewithoutYou is probably a top 3 live band for me - absolutely insane

 

Absolutely. Was lucky enough to see them with brand new last month and it was one of the best performances Ive ever seen. Something about the performance seemed more genuine than any band Ive ever seen. Each band member doing their own set up, Aaron sitting down off stage between every song, and just how happy everyone seemed to be playing music. Great band

 

mwy is a band that I've heard a ton about but have never checked out but I wanna give them a shot. RIYL? fav songs?

 

Check out the album Pale Horses, it's my favorite album of theirs. Although it's not the consensus favorite, I think it's their most accessible as a starting point. After that you can pretty much go to any album. RIYL: La Dispute, kind of

 

MWY is a band that's more easily a RIYL for a band than has any RIYLs

 

I hate La Dispute and love mewithoutYou. for those deterred by that comparison

impossible to classify, really - and that's a large part of their appeal

 

Red Cow. The dynamic shifts in that song continues to amaze me

 

they are definitely hitting their stride again live. i saw them right after pale horses came out last year and it was the best i had seen them in years and i've been going to their shows for the better part of a decade

 

Pale Horses is a record that makes me understand people's critiques of Will Yip

 

Yeah the production is frustrating on that album. Not nearly as bad as other stuff he's done

I don't get most of the Yip hate at all

 

Only really bad yip is the last b & c album. the guitars are a mess

 

the production on the latest circa album was woof

postcards production sounds ok from what I can tell

 

It's just waaaaay too loud

 

yeah last circa record was kind of off, Keep You suffers from it the most i think. just bad all around. the way he records drums is so off sounding.

 

I think keep you actually sounds pretty good

 

it has a unique sound for sure - I think it services the album ok

 

the drums on Descensus are one of his worst offenses I think

 

Descensus sounds so hollow, which is a shame because the songwriting packs a lot of punch.
