  1. Same energy as the people that flexed their stress veins at Nate Ruess using autotune on Stars because "he can actually sing and doesn't need it"

fair enough, I'm just seeing a lot of negative discussions about vocal effects and it still takes me back to that discussion

Yeah I understand, but unless I missed something it was focused on this one band.

It was an annoying discussion. I also always defended autotune, even in 05.

Speaking of fun. and being that this is the unpopular opinions thread: fun. always annoyed the shit out of me

    No Fun. Not Ever.

There's maybe all of three songs of theirs that I like. I'd just rather listen to the Format instead.

  9. Hahah. They don’t bother me but I’m also not a big fan. It’s hit or miss and the stuff that hits I almost never return to anyway

  12. fun. had like one of the biggest sophomore slumps I can recall

I haven't heard the second album since 2012 so perhaps I'll change my mind about it, but the radio overplay at the time didn't help either

wouldn’t that be the opposite of a sophomore slump tho? with how much they blew up

I.... don't think you know what that term means, lol. It doesn't mean "I didn't like their second album"

I love "Aim and Ignite," but never could get into "Some Nights," outside of the title track and "Out of the Town." I think A+I was just closer to what I loved about The Format and SN wasn't. I also think that Nate solo album is incredibly mediocre.

artists I've checked out in the past few days:

    Land of Talk: pretty good

    Allie X: pretty good

    Burna Boy: not for me

    100 gecs: I feel like I'm 70 when I listen to this

My thoughts on 100 gecs... not trying to reignite the conversation again or anything, but I felt the need to chime in regardless... I almost see it as a musical play on "ok boomer..."

If there are a lot of people out there that are critical of modern/popular music, it gives these people something new (which they claim to want) but it's like a joke right? Like... a lot of people aren't gonna be down for it, because it's decidedly in your face, weird and out there, but again, they "gave people what they wanted" right, something different... So it's basically like the ultimate troll on these people, which is what makes it genius lol.

And all the while, it's a freakin' blast... so more power to them, I say. From what I can see, the crowds they bring in are absolutely nuts... like I haven't seen metal crowds even going that hard for a while now, so there's definitely something there... I think it's cool. It's a good energy.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the music they make is outright bad, but it ain't for me
