“Joseph D'Agostino, the lead singer/songwriter of Cymbals Eat Guitars, has announced his new project Empty Country and has shared the new track "Ultrasound" as well as the B-Side "Jets".

When talking about the track "Ultrasound" Joe says, "My sister-in-law Robin was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in the summer of 2015. She is now NED (No Evidence of Disease!) and has been for more than three years. But whenever my wife Rachel goes in for her biannual examination and has imaging done, we are always pretty on-edge, to say the least. This song is about a bleak and scary week in January 2018 while we were waiting on a biopsy report following a suspicious-looking ultrasound. It features two of my heroes: Rachel on the high harmony and Charles Bissell of The Wrens on the low harmony."

As for "Jets" Dagostino says, “It’s about tripping acid on Block Island in the summer of 2018, and about the end of civilized society. FDT!”

Look out for the Empty Country debut LP early next year on Tiny Engines.”

Just listened to the podcast. If what she said is accurate: Cymbals Eat Guitars is dead. I guess being split between NYC and Philly was too much. RIP — they’ll be sorely missed, but looking forward to the new outlet.

The Seattle radio Midday Show mentioned in the tweet. I was late though and it started from the beginning as a podcast.

The DJ premiered the two songs and in her lead in said “members of Cymbals Eat Guitars which ended in January 2018.”

 

Talk about burying the lede. They're done.

I just realized the (Sandy) in “4th of July, Philadelphia (Sandy)” is referring to Alex G and I cant believe it took me three years. I feel really dumb lol

 

This band deserved better.

 

They really did.

I’m really excited for the new project, though. Ultrasound is fantastic.

Well I got that part!!! I was always like “this is so sick they reference Alex G!!!” but literally never understood the reason (Sandy) was at the end of the title until today. I truly can’t believe it took me this long

 

Bumping because of the end of the decade list. This isn’t the album by them that was on there, but it’s still a masterpiece imo

 

I feel blessed that this was still available from the label now that Empty Country has me in a big CEG kick. I've had my eye on this forever but for some reason never went through with it
