At this point, he’s basically in 3rd in most national polls, and polling high in a quite a few states (lead in one Arkansas poll), there’s no excuse for him not to be on the debate stage and be tested like the rest.

Yeah we’ll see how good they feel when them voting for someone other than Bernie/Warren gets them another four years of Trump

  3. So wild that that this shit is pumped into the eyes of millions of people in their living room every night

  4. I am ready to see chunks taken out of him on the debate stage, that’s for sure.

You’re also feeding a narrative that could hurt Bernie in a close primary, especially as people drop out and people choose number 2s.
There has to be a better way to address this than to paint Bernie supporters in general as harassers. This is being used to basically demand Bernie supporters to be silent while people post, for example, that he wants to take half your paycheck to pay for Medicare for all or that he’s sexist and doesn’t think a woman can be president.

Pretty good chance that even a candidate as terrible as HRC was on policy but was actually “likable” would have won in 2016. Just as good a chance in 2020. It’s why Biden keeeps crushing Trump in polls, because people like him. It’s hard to remember that when we’re in our own far left bubbles here.

There are ways to respond to those posts without it being mocking or insulting or piling on or etc

Beating Trump is going to take more than being likable this time around. No chance someone as non-energizing as Biden/Amy/Pete gets it done.

Ok, and correct me if I'm remembering wrong, but wasn't there an article within the last few weeks in this thread about this exact thing actually happening?

You're creating a false choice between staying silent and attacking people

Take a look at Bernie's statement today about the cullinary union. Responses like that are great and should be encouraged

  17. Maybe true, but if my choice is: call out harassment or let it go on as I bite my tongue, I have decided calling out the harassment is more important to me than letting it go on, even if that means calling attention to it in my tiny little part of the world. My worldview is more akin to that of shining light on things, I’m a dude with a blog, and one that is not tied into one specific politician as a king or savior. I don’t see it as my duty to protect Bernie from some of Bernie’s supporters being assholes by looking the other way.

My suggestion would be, uh, the prominent ones that do it should stop, which would potentially lead to less of the mime-like behavior. Or, maybe, if it was called out more by people it would become less seen as ok. In many activist circles I’ve been around, that kind of accountability has been a big part of it. I’ve never had much luck with it online, however.

I think there’s a pretty big difference between silence and not harassing people. I think most people know the difference when they see it as well.

I think enough people like him that he continually beats Trump like 52-45 in national polls and shit. Those people aren’t voting for him because he has the best policies, they’re doing it because he’s nice and he’s uncle joe and he’s salt of the earth and etc blah blah blah. So how you make somebody feel does very much matter to a lot of voters because voters are weird

Exactly What Victor Emerita said. My dad has been a republican his entire life and he told me in 2017 that if it had been Bernie last time around he would have voted Bernie no problem. This time around Trump has a lot of those kinds of people by the throat and they are going nowhere. You need to energize new voters, and none of those other candidates except maybe Warren get those votes.

Likability doesn’t energize new voters, great policy does.

  22. Not sure. Nothing I remember off hand. I’m sure there are, or will be!, fake trolls in the future if there aren’t already. Project Veritas did it to Hillary, I see no reason to think they wouldn’t again. I remember this from last year:
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/tech...twitter-her-campaign-couldnt-stop-its-spread/
The post gained only a single retweet at the time. But it found new life this past weekend, making its way to sharp-eyed Twitter users who realized it was fake, with the campaign placards photoshopped over Black Lives Matter signs.

Twitter users seized on a side-by-side comparison of the doctored version and the original, assailing the Warren campaign for the apparent misrepresentation. What they did not realize was that the account that had propagated the photo has been identified by the Warren campaign as a “troll,” only feigning support for the Massachusetts Democrat as it pushed out falsified content in an apparent effort to undermine her candidacy

Very much disagree. It’ll be a tough election regardless, but voting these days is a popularity contest, not a measure of policies

No you’re missing my point. I’m saying it’s being used to call engaging a stupid post with a snarky or blunt response harassment. It’s being used already to basically demand Bernie supporters to not call out stupid or just false posts. I know there is a difference between engaging and harassment.
