I signed up as a registered supporter of the Labour party so that I can vote for Corbyn and just had this email sent through:

They won't find shit on me just by searching for my name and email address (not that they would find anything bad anyway). If that's how they vet people then they might as well not bother. I'm just hoping they don't reject me due to my overwhelming support for Corbyn, ha.

It's really strange seeing a party so baldly at odds with its constituents. It would seem that derailing Corbyn would cause a schism in Labour much worse than those in either of the major American parties. One wonders if Corbyn's exodus would lead to a Green unification under his banner.

Challenging him already has done that, I think. It's hard to imagine there not being some big change coming to the party one way or another.

  8. Candidate Invites Cyberattack on U.S.
Whatever you think of Clinton (and I am not a fan of hers, for the record), she is still a citizen of the United States. When someone seeking the countryꞌs highest office calls down the wrath of a foreign power on her, that should disqualify him immediately as a serious contender for the presidency. Make no mistake: Cybercrime can be a form of terrorism, just as sure as a bombing or mass shooting, and if Hillary Clintonꞌs privacy isnꞌt safe under Trump, whose would be?

I will always wonder how much, if at all, those two unaffiliated supposed-BLM-plants in Arizona at the onset of Sanders' campaign affected his trajectory with black voters. I only remember that the one girl of the two was basically a protest lobbyist who had been a Republican for a long time until they "wouldn't pay her enough."

Anyways, Sanders' utter failure with Southern black voters absolutely must be learned from if the left is going to push through another grass roots candidate who doesn't have the name power of a mainstream candidate. Had he even pulled to 40% of that demographic in the South, he likely wins the race. Instead, the South completely deflated his victories thereafter.

Has it occurred to anyone that this discussion surrounding treason just feeds into the militaristic culture that already pervades this country?

Sanders didn't do enough to link up systemic racism with its class dimensions. But even then, it was a generational divide among black voters as I recall.

  13. I've been thinking about that too. Also, I don't think it actual is "treason" by definition, and I think taking it to that hyperbole alone is problematic. Everything becomes SO BIG AND LOUD.

  14. Good news for a change: The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge led to significant gene discovery.
Washington, D.C. (July 25, 2016) — According to a paper published today in Nature Genetics, researchers part of Project MinE’s global gene sequencing effort, funded by The ALS Association through ALS Ice Bucket Challenge donations, have identified a new ALS gene, NEK1, which now ranks among the most common genes that contribute to the disease, providing scientists with another potential target for therapy development. This was the largest-ever study of familial (inherited) ALS, involved contributions from over 80 researchers in 11 countries, and was led by John Landers, Ph.D., of University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Mass. and Jan Veldink, Ph.D., of University Medical Center Utrecht, in The Netherlands.

The nitpicking here, aside from being largely speculative, is kind of silly compared to the liberal choice being someone who throws middle eastern countries into murderous chaos and advocates globally for fossil fuel extraction. Even if this is a legitimate knock on Stein the fact that this is all anyone can come up with should speak volumes for the quality of her positions.

I don't think O'Reilly actually understands slavery. Labor or work is an experience within slavery. Social death and and gratuitous violence define slavery. Whether they are actualized or not doesn't matter, it is the possibility and probability of those things being perpetrated against a "non-human" that makes it such a singular phenomenon, particularly as it pertains to the black experience in America and the extent to which that dynamic has not changed, as evidenced by the recent decision in Baltimore. But, I digress.
