Listened to the 4 times today, it's fucking sick. I'm interested by the debate about it being too nihilistic but hearing how Dylan reflects back how I'm feeling so unflinchingly and completely honestly makes me feel less alone. I love how radical this band is.

I'm so excited to see them with Mannequin Pussy and The Menzingers next week, plus they've announced a little stripped down show at Banquet Records in the afternoon so it's gonna be 2x Spanish Love Songs next Saturday B-)

For those who aren't hearing the similar sounding songs -- listen to the into to Self Destruction back to back with Kick. I think it's the guitar tone and tempo.

Same for Generation Loss/Beach Front Property.

I feel like it's lacking a song that slaps like Beer & Nyquil or Bad Day.

On a few more listens I am not sure it is hitting me as hard as Schmaltz but still really enjoying it. Generation Loss is my current fave.

I had never heard of this band in my life until this week. And this album absolutely RULES.

So happy that this forum exists. I have found countless great bands here.

I'm greatful this band exists. Schmaltz was an album that got me through the lowest time in my life. This album is the perfect follow up and the lyrics hit just as hard even if I'm in a much better place. Band is extremely relateable as someone who's grown up poor, can't seem find my way out as much as I've tried and struggles with depression.

I feel like burning down my life again
I’ll watch the fire spread over my skin
Until I’m nothing left but skeleton
A pile of dust that’s free just floating in the wind
    But brave faces, everyone

Listening to their Funeral cover right now and it's weird how much the lyrics sound like they could have been written by Dylan lol

This is a very good album, but . . .

This is not a good album to listen to on a run first thing in the morning.

I love that the one change he made is to say “shit” in the chorus instead lol. Very on brand

funny you say this. The only song of theirs I have on my running playlist is “Buffalo, Buffalo”. As much as I love Schmaltz and enjoy their work as a whole, their stuff doesn’t strike me as good to listen to while running, so I’m curious to know what made you feel this way.

Yeah this thing goes. Beachfront Property and the title track in particular.

I like my morning runs to energize and invigorate me to tackle the day. This just makes me want to go crawl in a hole.

Really wish I could like this, and I'm glad people connect with it, but yeah for me it's too dark lyrically... just personally don't want to go there.

I don't think it does either. But I also can't stop playing it. Love this band.

The second verse in Beach Front Property is so good

Yeah I don't think I can listen to the full record in one go. I need more variation personally.

Not to say that the songs aren't very good, because they are. Can see myself coming back to this quite a bit, just in doses.

Whilst I love this I've heard a few people criticise the sort of overly earnest vocals, and I can definitely understand that.

I love it, but I do think it could be a turn off, similarly to how Soupy has done that on recent releases.

I think the vocals here are an improvement from Schmaltz tbh

Yeah I thought he was serviceable on Schmaltz but sounds way more emotional here, and not like he’s constantly on the verge of tears like some other pop punk singers

I feel like it’s been talked about so I apologize for rehashing this topic but while I feel like some of the lyrics are too pessimistic, or “whoa is me” the delivery/tone of them doesn’t have that same feel, if that makes sense? Like, if the vocals were sung differently I’d probably not be a big fan of this / the band, but there’s something here with how they’re done that makes it still seem earnest yet not obnoxious, cheesy or whiny.

yea to me their whole pessimistism thing feels open ended as in whether u want to take it as hopeful but realistic or just nihilistic is up to u. band has the radical but not preachy thing down pretty well i think.
