this is some weird revisionist history here about Color suddenly... not being good?

 

It’s a pretty forgettable album no matter how many times I listen to it

 

Color is very forgettable

 

Not saying it’s a bad album. I just go back to it the least

 

Color has like 3 songs I go back to and really enjoy, the rest is meh
YOTBR is basically the same way. Both just aren't great.

 

This is going to sound weird, but YOTBR was the first Coheed album I ever listened to, which is partially why it’s not my least favorite from them like TCBTS is. The other reason is that I just find it to be much more interesting than TCBTS, even though I don’t think either are good albums.

 

There’s just too much “Coheed filler” on both YOTBR and TCBTS. Lots of tracks that just meander around but don’t stand out in any way compared to their otherwise stellar discography

There’s a reason why we all loved Ascension/Descension and Vaxis, because compared to what immediately preceded them both they were absolute hook filled monsters

I feel like YOTBR suffered from it being overproduced. If they would have had a better producer I feel like that album would have been a lot better.

 

Working with Ross was a terrible decision. Didn’t fit the band at all. Watching those documentary videos on that album were interesting to see. I feel like he wanted to make the production different just to be different, not to benefit the sound

 

The songs are there, the production/mix sucked all the life out of them. I still enjoy the record but they would’ve benefitted from working with someone else.

 

Fully agree. Having seen most of those songs live during that era, the songs were most definitely there. YOTBR will always get the benefit of the doubt for me even though the production was just awful.

 

You're probably confusing Chon with Thank You Scientist.

 

I wish they were touring with Thank You Scientist again instead

 

I’m so over seeing Chon open for bands I like to see

I loved Color, personally. Ghosts was the only song that never stuck with me.

However, I could never get behind Black Rainbow... I just didn't like it. None of it, sadly. Wasn't my thing.
