I remember seeing that moment and telling my fiancé “That’s a Spider-Man animatronic they’re testing!” Just by the motions. This is gonna be super cool.

 

Ours doesn’t say reserve group but there’s a disclaimer about everything above 72 which seems like such a random number. It’s been stalled at group 70 for a while. The Disneyland app doesn’t seem to indicate whether or not the ride is down unfortunately too.

EDIT: I think we’re gonna bail. The kids are miserable and the thought of being here 3 more hours seems like torture. Will update if we change our minds

 

We stayed. One kid is asleep so it’s much more manageable. 9 groups to go.

 

I’m curious to see how long the line is once you actually get into it

 

If it’s anything like in FL, the queue itself is only like 20 mins until you start your experience

 

Just got the “we cannot accommodate yours boarding group” message. 8 away. Damn. Might try to ride it out. Anyone read or see anything about groups continuing to be called after that message goes out?

 

Aaaaaaaaaaand they cut it off at 98 and closed the attraction queue an hour before closing. Cool. That was/ is a miserable experience. What a dumb system

That's awful, they should at least give you a Fastpass for something else when that happens

 

What episode was this? I don't remember anything SM related.

 

Can you leave and come back once you get your boarding group? Or at least explore the park?

 

It was the very last scene of the Imagineering Story I think. I don't think they directly mentioned Spider-Man but they were showcasing an animatronic that they were launching through the sky.

 

From my understanding you can go do whatever you want. I know in Florida a lot of people leave and go back to their hotel and return later in the night

 

yeah if i showed up at 6am and got a boarding group that tends to not get called until 4-5pm i'm definitely going back to sleep lol

 

I hope that's the case. But I'm just not sure why if he had kids who were miserable, you wouldn't just leave and come back.

 

it's probably not as easy as it sounds especially in Disneyland where, i know he's a local traveler, to leave the park drive home or somewhere else and come back later, it makes the most sense to just (no pun intended) ride it out.

In WDW it would be so much easier to leave and come back especially if you're a resort guest.

 

I’m just hoping that come the fall its either on fp+ or the demand has died enough to just have them allow an open queue.

 

I'm just going to show up at Hollywood Studios every morning of my trip until I get to ride it lol. Maybe I can ask my friend who works there to get me on somehow..

 

with how much emphasis WDW puts on making reservations for everything and anything prior to your trip, i feel bad for the casual vacationer who probably has 1 day set aside for each park and if they miss it, even if theyre literally in the park ALL DAY, they still probably wont get another shot.

 

I dont like the boarding pass system personally - but i really dont see any other easier form of crowd control right now unfortunately

 

Correct. Disneyland is an hour from home. We went and did stuff around both parks all day and the kids were just burnt out (one is only 7 weeks old and is very grumpy most of the time.) the 4 year old was excited and SUPER bummed we weren’t able to ride

my takeaway is this: the ride isn’t open. They should stop saying that and calling it that. It’s a soft open/ dress rehearsal at best. Call it that and I wouldn’t be upset. Also, they close the queue an hour before park closing yet I can get in a 200 minute space mountain queue at 9:59 the nights the park closes at midnight and be able to ride. Absolutely bonkers. This is terrible and I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a class action lawsuit about it FROM those single day travelers that had no clue about this reservation system and planned to visit the park and wait in as long a line as they needed to to ride it. I even know an AP that literally hadn’t heard of the reservation system once and planned his trip months in advance.
Anyway, yes. It sucked. We had a good day though doing other things. Ate lots at the lunar new year celebration but this is an absolute nightmare - especially out case. They cut off al groups starting with ours and actually didn’t even make it that far. No one above group 96 got to go. Sucks for me but probably sucks more for anyone in group 97. Also the queue looked long as hell at 9pm but there was no posted wait time. Not sure how long it was.
TL;DR - don’t consider the ride open. Consider it a dress rehearsal.

 

It definitely seems like they should have been more forthcoming with how they were going to approach riding this. I literally did not hear about 'virtual boarding groups' until a few hours after the park opened opening day at HS. i am sure people arrived that morning assuming they'd be running right to the line. it's an absolute mess.

what solace i can take is that, a few accounts i follow for WDW have tweeted that WDW is sending out questionaires and surveys asking folks about their experience, i assume in efforts to make needed changes where they can, but idk what the timeline is for any changes.

 

However if I had ridden it I wouldn’t likely feel this way at all so who knows? I just feel bad for casual park guests that showed up thinking it was open to the public because I wouldn’t say that’s necessarily true. I’m an AP so I have the luxury of trying again which I might but this whole thing is a huge yikes

 

I appreciate the easiness of reserving a seat and time, but man am I glad that my parents took me to theme parks as a kid and we would turn the corner to a monster ride and be enthralled go check it. The magic of that is kind of gone in modern days it seems.

Also now that I'm married, getting a house soon, kids likely soon-ish I should start saving now for a family vacation to Disney.
