Considering Riot’s relationship with Danzig, I would be surprised if they don’t have him. Especially since he hasn’t been there for a couple of years now.

I'd put money against A7X headlining (or even being on the bill). Riot Fest has never put an emphasis on this brand of "rock" and any example people provide has something very different about the band that sets them apart. If Riot Fest wanted to go nu-metal/radio rock, I think we would have seen it already in some way in the undercard already.

I'm 50-50 on Vampire Weekend. I wouldn't rule them out, but I would peg them as more of a Lollapalooza or Pitchfork. Riot Fest feels like it would be an afterthought for them (i.e., maybe on an off-year or toward the end of an album cycle). Riot has been skewing more toward allowing in some of these acts the last few years too (Young the Giant, Father John Misty, Interpol all in 2018 for example).

I don't think a few of these are quite big enough (or would have enough of a "wow" factor) to warrant headlining status, including Vampire Weekend. Same with Rob Zombie.

I went to Montebello/Amnesia Rock Fest a few times, and there was always issues getting into the venue but usually once you got in, things were okay... But that year, music was supposed to start at like, 12:30 and I don't think anybody announced anything until 1 o'clock or so. And that was Joey from Lagwagon telling the crowd that Lagwagon was going to reschedule their set to a time TBD on another stage. The Bosstones were on that same stage and also had to shift their set over to the stage the local bands were playing because of it too. It was just a bad scene. Worth noting that Dee Snider layed that one a few years AFTER that, so it seems like they never got their shit together.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Danzig on the line-up, but I don't know that putting him before MCR would necessarily be the move. I was actually wondering if MCR headlining might finally see Taking Back Sunday getting a bona fide slot on the main stage just before a headliner. That would make a whole ton of sense, IMHO.

I think the Strokes are definitely in the running as a headliner. Operation Ivy would surprise me (primarily because Riot already has a big reunion this year) though I know they're a perennial guess around here. A few of the others I don't see coming back because they've already headlined and Riot Fest doesn't tend to repeat headliners (ex: No Doubt might be in the mix if it's a Tragic Kingdom set, but I don't see them coming back otherwise).

Would surprise more like shock me too but I threw it out their just because, and they've had repeat headliners the last 2 years (3 out of 4 if you want to count Flaming Lips) so never hurts bc Riot does follow a bit of a pattern.. I could also easily see MCR, Strokes, and then Deftones co-headlining the other day

    Forgot about the Flaming Lips...

Having My Chemical Romance headline one stage and the Strokes close out another would make sense. I'm a bit hedgier on where the Deftones would be placed. I feel like they could go anywhere from closing out their own stage to being directly ahead of whoever is closing out said-stage (just depends on who else is booked).

If My Chemical Romance and Operation Ivy were both booked this year, that would be stunning. That would be quite the feat, haha.

If Strokes play they are definitely a top 3 headliner. Personally I don't think Strokes are as much of a Riot fit as others, but I might be biased because I honestly have just never been able to get into them beyond hearing them and just thinking "ya this sounds nice".

Deftones will get the Incubus spot on the card, plus it's the 20th anniversary of White Pony... maybe even A Perfect Circle could show up for a one off show & we get Passenger lol

They've booked atleast 2 Strokes side-projects, so it's more inevitable than actually fitting.. but I mean like somebody said, the National were a bit out of the norm too

edit: make that just 1, Albert Hammond Jr was booked at a festival I went to a month after Riot.. durrr

Well to me the difference is that booking The Voidz as an afternoon act is one thing, but when it's as a headliner, it's kind of a different thing. I don't think it's impossible or that it'd be shocking, I mean it's not really different than Beck. Ok you're probably right lol

Circa Survie is way overdue to play again. They're doing BSN in May, so i can't imagine they do that, but I wonder if they come back for a normal set/support of a new album. Then again, maybe they take it easy the rest of this year to give Anthony a little more time.

The best description of the Strokes that I've ever heard was a buddy of mine: "They sound like the Buzzcocks with all the fun and urgency sucked out."

That being said? I'd be down to watch about 50% of a headlining set before ducking out to see an aftershow.

Good call, actually on their slot. Not sure that they could be convinced to do a White Pony album play, but they've done Around The Fur at festivals in the past so... Fuck it. Why not? I'd be all about that shit.

it's Riot's gimmick, they probably ask 7 out of 10 bands they book to play a full album.. although I'd be even happier with Deftones playing a regular set, and hum playing Astronaut in full (Chino said it's one of his favorite albums ever, & it's 25th anniversary)

I mean, it's not a matter of Riot asking. I'm sure they ask a lot of artists to do it each year. I'm just not sure the Deftones are a band who is all that likely to do it.

I gotcha, was just throwing it out there.. but it's Riot 2020, so I'm sure they are going for 20 album plays this year so..

I know Rob Zombie 100% played Astro-Creep by the request of Riot Fest.

As someone that enjoys the album play gimmick, I would be down with that. Especially because there are some pretty awesome albums that they could go with this year. But I doubt they will have that many.

in the middle of that dog's set, Anna just straight up says something to the effect of "we're playing Retreat from the Sun because they asked us too"

even though I think they had played it a year earlier at LARGO

The best was when NOFX kept talking about the contract and how it didn't specify that the songs needed to be played in order.

I'm almost positive they did at every show where they played Punk in Drublic, but still doesn't surprise me.

IMHO if we get deftones i hope its not an album play, their discography is far to loaded with absolute bangers to be restricted to one album, and ive only ever gotten to see them 2 times, and both were from the lawn of an amphitheater opening for someone else, so if they are booked, ill be there no matter what.

Yeah they throw in some BIG deep cuts whenever they headline. At least they did when I saw them a few years back

    Definitely doesn't surprise me, hah.

I mean, I'd honestly be down with whatever they opt to play. As far as full albums, I think White Pony is pure gold from start to finish... But I'm not sure I'd enjoy it as much in a live setting compared to a career-spanning set. There's total bangers throughout. White Pony has a few low-energy moments that work in the context of the album, but might cause a bit of drag in a live set.

i would die for a full album play of the self titled but that'd never happen obviously

Would a They Might Be Giants album play for Flood be out if the question? They’re already doing it in Chicago May 14th but the show DID sell out incredibly quickly
