I really felt it could have gone either way. But I've always felt pretty strongly that they were much more of a Riot Fest act than a Lolla act in every possible way...

Curious to see what the undercard looks like. Especially on the day that they play. Wonder if they're able to pull in Thursday again.

This will be my 6th time seeing them, maybe? But man, I think the last time was 2005. Opening for Green Day or on that one headlining run with Alkaline Trio and Reggie & the Full Effect...

It's been a while. So I'm stoked to finally see them in a larger setting.

Well, with Riot Fest I don't think they'd need to knock them down. They would just slot Rage Against the Machine in on another day. Riot Fest is less concerned about genre diversity than other festivals. And an act like MCR is in a weird spot popularity wise because they are arguably bigger than some of the pop acts, but it would also look weird to slot them above them on a line-up like that.

Coachella, Lolla, etc. tend to only have one big "rock" act as a headliner each year, where as for Riot Fest most years? The top three is all guitar-driven. That sounded better in my head, hopefully that makes sense.

Congrats to you and your dog!

I am so tempted to purchase a set of 3-day VIP passes today. My girlfriend has made it really clear that she wants to go, and I'm totally down at this point but...

What if the line-up is just total weak sauce? I say this knowing full well that there's virtually no shot that I'm going to feel that way about it. But dropping that kind of scratch so far in advance kinda freaks me out.

I guess I can do it and then sell them off if needed? Is that easy enough to do? How does that work with the names on the passes, etc.

Reselling with the name on them is easy. No one checks the name. Depends on if you get back what you paid, though.

Hopefully they didn't blow the bank on getting MCR. That would be my only concern.

The real possibility they spent all their money on MCR and can't get Andrew WK or GWAR

i dont think mcr is as expensive as people think. im pretty sure they are less then system or fob or blink or right around the same price.

and with who they had last year im sure they have the money to put a really good lineup together even with them getting mcr

Thanks! I'd be willing to take the gamble if it meant potentially losing $50 or so, I think... May just pull the trigger.

Honestly, if they blew the bank on MCR I think that would be okay for me and my tastes, hah. Last year's line-up was arguably among the strongest in years from my perspective. I wouldn't hate it if it were similar to that. So long as they don't do what Boston Calling did and litter the bottom three lines of the line-up each day with unknown DJs I think I'd be good.

In terms of "wow" factor (and genre diversity), I don't think last year's line-up was that impressive. It was a lot of the prototypical 90s style punk and "vintage" indie-rock acts with a few reunions tossed in. Obviously that's not 100% of the line-up, but that was the general vibe. That sort of line-up is probably cheaper to pull together and sits so squarely in my wheelhouse that I really wouldn't be upset if that's what we got again.

My one beef with last year's line-up was that it felt like there wasn't much of a focus on newer acts, younger artists, etc. on the bottom two lines. (Fast forward to May, me sitting at my chair reading the line-up and saying: "Who the fuck are thes bands? I don't know them. Waaaah, why didn't you book Masked Intruder and Microwave again?!!")

This year we are probably getting Strike Anywhere and Suicide Machines though so it's all worth it

From what I've heard, the costing on those sites can be pretty inaccurate. It's also worth noting that there's a bunch of acts on there who are inactive (the Gaslight Anthem, for starters) and others that we know cost Riot Fest some $$$$ in the past (thy cite System as being "under $100k").

That being said, I feel like My Chemical Romance wasn't as expensive as they would have been had this been a one-off. So I doubt they were any more expensive than System of a Down, or even the Misfits.

Yeeeah, buddy! I'm feeling strong about those sort of acts. It lines up pretty well. Also anticipating NOFX, Anti-Flag, a few of the "baby Fat" bands...

And I am silently crossing my fingers that Grumpster and/or Telethon wind up somewhere on the bottom line. Both bands need way more hype.

Flatliners doing Cavalcade is a given too, I think this year is going to be top tier honestly

Now I really hope Taking Back Sunday plays mainstage right before My Chemical Romance

My dream lineup for the main stage would be something like:

Creeper - New Years Day - The Used - Taking Back Sunday - MCR

Great point! Actually, reflecting on it? It would be pretty cool if we had a day on that sidestage headlined by Goldfinger or Reel Big Fish with a bunch of "ska/punk" bands (the Suicide Machines, Big D and the Kids Table, the Flatliners, Catbite).

They would all fit size-wise and it would be a blast. Streetlight's set in that part of the festival grounds was wild that one year.

Ah, you're right about Anti-Flag. I missed that when I looked at the poster a few minutes ago...

Still. Insert EpiFat punk band that plays the festival every other year or so here.

Nah, I think $1-million for NIN feels right. Same with System of a Down. I'm surprised they even have a price for both bands listed.

Usually after you hit a certain level it just says "Contact for pricing."
