I wonder if it opening in Cali will disperse lines a little bit.

The MDE app works on gps though, if youre not IN the park it won’t let you join a group. You can’t do it from anywhere on property (from what I understand). So if you just get there at the normal time and it takes you a while to get through security, by the time youre IN the park and can use the feature, the groups may be gone.

I’ve even heard (though it could be speculation) that it doesn’t depend on gps location at all, but whether or not you scanned your magic band or pass to enter the park by 7. I just hope it mellows out soon enough.

That would make more sense, as you could just GPS spoof being in the park and get in a grouping which I haven't heard anyone do yet.

Same. My son and his mom went last year, hopefully I can make it out this year. I frequent Kings Dominion, Hersey, and Busch Gardens.

Doing a quick WDW weekend in a couple weeks. Hollywood studios Friday, magic kingdom Saturday, then maybe universal Sunday before my 8pm flight out. Stoked.

I'm 35 years old and I'm attempting to go to Orlando for Disney/Universal for the first time ever this year.

Best recommended plans? Anything to avoid? Would love suggestions.

Universal is the better park for adults. Avoid student vacations. Don't wait more than half an hour for anything.

  17. Depends on what you like in a theme park. I think EPCOT is just wonderful but will be under a lot of construction while there. Animal kingdom is an incredible mix of zoo and theme park. Magic kingdom is classic Disney park and I love it. And then there’s Hollywood studios. Haha. They have galaxy’s edge going for it I suppose. Tower is an all-time great attraction too.

Man, I mean there's websites on websites dedicated to recommendations/suggestions. Where to even start?

When are you going (month, week, etc.)? How long are you going for? Without planning for anything, in your head, how do you see your trip? 4 days at Disney and 2 at Universal? Etc.

If you go to Universal, and stay on property, they have select resorts that will give you Express Pass so you can skip to front of the line on all the attractions.

If you stay on Disney, you can get in early. I don't typically stay on property for Disney, so I'm not sure what other perks they have.

all of this, but just piggy backing to say that if you stay in a Disney resort you can claim fast passes 90 (Or maybe 60?) days out instead of 30

    additional important questions-
    What’s your budget like?
Are you a Harry Potter person? More of a Disney person? Anything in particular you really enjoy about either?

Haha it can be overwhelming for sure but you can tackle it in chunks and not get too overwhelmed
Also imo it’s better to be overwhelmed in the planning stages and have it go mostly smooth during the visit rather than relaxed in planning and overwhelmed once you get there.

I would say first decide how much time you want to spend in Orlando. Then break that down by park. There are 6 parks between the two of them and not all of them need a full day.
Once you have that figured out you can kind of loosely start to plan what day you want to do what park, and attack it day by day.

but one thing that is important is making sure you get fast passes through the my Disney experience app whenever possible (like I said it’s 60 or 90 if you’re staying on site, 30 if you’re staying off-site) because going without fast passes is probably the worst thing you can do IMO

    NYC now/PGH forever

A lot of the travel books out there on Disney are really great at laying out day-by-day itineraries if you prefer to sit in a bookshop with a coffee over trying to sort through all the blogs online (I find that way too overwhelming haha)... most will have suggestions if you're there with kids vs. without. I found the Birnbaum to be a great primer/information source https://www.amazon.com/dp/136802758X/?tag=absolutepunk-20

They haven’t released a POV for it yet but it’s a 210 foot B&M Hyper Coaster and construction’s almost complete. I can’t believe of all the coasters in that place, this is only the 2nd B&M coaster in Hersheypark
