Jillian Michaels tortures fat people for a living on national television, I think it’s more than fine to be critical of how she chooses to phrase her desire to not have kids. Especially when it contributes to a culture that believes women’s bodies doing a thing they were built to do “ruins” them.

I'm from the UK so she's not really famous here. How does she torture people? Does she do fitness videos or something like that?

She is on a show called The Biggest Loser, which is a reality TV program about losing weight. The issue is that the ways in which they encourage contestants to lose weight are extremely unhealthy. Numerous participants have come forward about the abusive environment on the show, which overall prioritizes “getting skinny” over being healthy.

So she’s most famous for being on The Biggest Loser as a fitness instructor of sorts. Basically, the show promoted unhealthy weight loss goals and methods, with contestants not only going through rigorous exercise and inadequate dieting with the goal of winning the season by losing the most weight out of everyone regardless of being healthy or not. She in particular was quite hard on the contestants and was often criticized for being so. It’s also worth noting that the idea of the show is pretty gross and more often than not, the contestants ended gaining back the weight after they left the show due to the unrealistic and unhealthy process it uses.

I have to agree, a reality show centered around weight loss in the first place is just an unhealthy idea. It's a personal journey and struggle for people - giving that journey a critical audience is not the way to encourage people to reach their goals.

Should Lizzo lose weight for the betterment of her health? Probably. Is it anyone else's business? Nope. Is there a whole demographic of people who could find confidence in seeing a big talented lady become famous purely for being who she is? Absolutely. That should be more important than anyone else's opinions on her size. Fat shaming is such a counterproductive foreign concept to me. I don't know how someone can look at a person like Lizzo nailing the musical aspect and having a blast on stage and then tell her she needs to change to fit their ideals.

Jillian Michaels is a woman whos literally paid to be fatphobic and like @personalmaps said, downright torture fat people

it’s insanely disheartening that someone like her is given a platform at all. if she can get paid so much for being fatphobic why can’t I get paid that much for fighting it and undoing it

She also has't been a part of the show in years. In the more recent seasons they tried to "break" people in order to truly get down to what caused the unhealthy habits. Still bad behavior but if viewers are watching.....

I'm saying that it's tough to expect a show to be better if people are wanting it to be one thing. I place equal blame on viewers and producers/network.

Ohh ok now I understand the tone you were applying

I think viewers are watching because they hate fat people (perhaps internalized) but also they desperately still want to cling to the narrative that if they just buckled down and got serious, they could shed 100 lbs too.

They wouldn’t be clinging to that narrative if mainstream media hadn’t sold it to them.
It’s downright irresponsible for a television network to churn out content that a) perpetuates a completely false narrative and b) contributes to the dehumanization of fat people

Lizzio’s health is between her and her doctors, so while there is not reason to speculate, we also need to dispel the totally incorrect notion that people who aren’t skinny are inherently unhealthy.

I'm skinny af, and I can guarantee you I'm not as healthy as I should be.

It's a fine line to walk, separating true heath concerns from people who are morbidly obese (clinically), but it's definitely not between anyone but that person and whatever medical professionals they use.

Interesting article, I guess. Makes it clear that he didn't make amends with the survivor and still doesn't get it. I appreciate that tone much more than the p4k article

It definitely scans as more revealing than the p4k feature but it still reads as a piece of PR above all

I'd like to see one of these features come out when the band isn't of promoting a new record. I think this and the p4k are the only major pieces of this nature and they both came in the immediate lead up to new music
