@irthesteve This Return of The Living Dead Blu Ray is incredible, easily one of the best SF releases by far. I'm just in awe, the picture is amazing and the original soundtrack (minus The Damned) is such a nice touch. This was money well spent.

Incredible news, Blair Witch project is still probably my favorite horror movie and I'm a huge fan of Wingard. Couldn't be more excited.

ha, i just watched this fairly recently.

as someone who loves surrealism, i felt that it occasionally got too swept up in trying to be surreal rather than trying to communicate an emotion or idea. i also wasn't always super comfortable with how it handled some of the assault sequences and themes, but perhaps that was partly the point. gorgeous film though, and there's definitely some interesting ways to apply feminist theory to it (not sure if that's artistic intent or not).

How did they reveal it anyway? Was the title card different for the premiere? Did they announce it beforehand? Or did audiences realize as the story transpired?

I'm on the fence about it being Blair Witch. I loved the first. Scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it in theaters. Never saw book of shadows. I agree with Jared that it would have been a better reveal in the movie. But let's face it, now this movie becomes infinitely more marketable.

the thing I'm kind of shaking my head at is people predicting this will bring forth a resurgence of found footage. I don't feel like FF ever went away. It has certainly become a stale sub genre, but I don't think one awesome movie will change everyone's perspective and make us look at FF in a fresh light.

I don't think that's what Miska is saying. Apparently the sound editing and the actual viewing experience are on another level.

Wingard may have elevated the found footage genre with this film.

it's just too saturated, there have been good to great found footage films released in each of the past few years.

That trailer shows a lot of shots that aren't ff though.

Anyway I'm super pumped for it. He's been on a roll with You're Next and The Guest. The original is one of my favorite horror films so I do have very high hopes.

This is what I was referring to. I feel like he's pointing to more than just technical achievements.

I don't think the emotional experience he describes is necessarily attached to the sub genre. It's in any film, and ultimately what most movies attempt to do. I think we can all agree that one of the biggest make or break attributes a good horror film has is its ability to make us care about what happens to the cast. I realize that he is talking about getting it to a deeper level, but that's not something as simple as just telling more film makers to persue it. I think that is just a sign of a talented film maker and crew.

When I first saw the trailer for The Woods I was absolutely blown away. It looked like the perfect horror movie for me. So that gives me high hopes with it being a Blair Witch sequel considering I was already wanting to see it before the name drop. And as much as I absolutely loved the first one, I'm glad this looks like there's parts that are found footage and then your normal, expected cinematic shots. I am super excited for this.

And it's like definitely a metaphor for eating disorders and it's so much better for it i think. It seems odd for such a campy Raimi film to handle such a heavy topic but it makes all the imagery like 10x better/worse
