Clinton Continues to Take Voters of Color for Granted - NYTimes.com

    "
Despite efforts to tout her racial bonafides working for the Children Defense Fund after law school, Clinton continues to take black voters for granted. This is especially egregious given that, as First Lady, she helped her husband champion crime and welfare policies that ultimately resulted in catastrophe for some of the nation’s most racially and economically vulnerable communities.

Of course, this does not mean that Clinton will lose the black vote. The Clinton “brand” holds powerful sway among black voters, and considering the grotesquely divisive racial pandering on display at the Republican National Convention, the choice for many blacks will be profoundly simple.

Yet it is profoundly dangerous for Clinton to ignore the growing generational divide within the black voting age population. Younger African-Americans are receptive to freedom dreams that exist beyond the confines of the two-party system. Some supported Bernie Sanders, and they and many others may stay at home if the Democratic Party does not work to be inclusive of them.

If frustrated millennial voters decide the margin of electoral victory or defeat, Clinton’s uninspired choice for vice president may also be remembered as a fatal one."

Let me start by saying I oppose fracking.

Interestingly works the other way where I live. The constituents want fracking but the governor won't allow it because he is worried about hurting his liberal image for the future. So the governor is more concerned about protecting his image and his future power than following the will of the people, so in your scenario he should also be killed.

if anyone else would have said this I would have felt differently...

if I was a cop I would probably want to be armed to the teeth when there are people openly advocating for killing season on cops. You don't give a shit about bridging any divide...you want a violent revolution.

Jesus Christ, you know it's possible to disagree with someone without saying they deserve to fucking die. I really can't believe you just said that.

You're right. The point, which you miss, is that their right to violence is being asserted, whilst the president and other officials tell organizations like Black Lives Matters to tone down their rhetoric and attempt to build bridges with the police. That they're doing this is the demonstration of bad faith inherent in a discussion about police violence.

If Hillary wins this election, I can't see her getting a second term unless she really turns some things around. Some stronger Democratic candidates have to show up in 2020 since this has been such a cluster.

You really believe that Kaine actually believes financial deregulation and fracking are good for the people and the future and is not promoting them merely because of private interest.

Okay. Moral absolutism is much easier than addressing my points. I get it.

Eh, even I can afford social media and YouTube. I wouldn't categorize it as really expensive. TV ads for sure, though.

Jill Stein is active on Twitter and Facebook. I would imagine YouTube would only help her get her message out rather than hurt her but I can't imagine it affecting the election as a whole. I didn't check Gary Johnson's social media but it's likely the same case.

Edit: forgot to mention, these candidates really don't have that much in the way of funding, so I'm pretty sure TV ads are out.

I think the Kaine move was smart by the dems. The number of people on the fence will vote Hillary thanks to this. we may not like it but that number is much bigger and more attainable than leftists who, as someone said earlier, probably weren't going for Hillary anyway. She took votes away from Trump, I can live with that.

But man Kaine has a horrible past. 11 people executed under his watch in Virginia. Not good.

@Richter915, I think you're underestimating the percentage of non-whites who were on the fence, but wanted a sign that she actually gave a damn enough to represent them on her ticket.

Most likely. However, the group of whites on the fence between her and Trump is likely much larger. Besides, as many of the primaries have showed, she is getting the vast majority of minority votes.

A week or so ago, I thought it was a clearly in Clinton's favor. I still think this, given the percentages of whites they require to win. I think Tim Kaine was a mistake, particularly if Trump continues to hit her over the head with his anti-worker rhetoric, so if she'd pivoted and put in place a left Vice President of color, she'd have cemented support of minority constituencies and taken that sort of politics off the table. As it is, she is playing the politics of the nineties, which is a misreading of this particular political moment.

Kaine spoke a lot in spanish during this event with Clinton today. (they were in Florida) -- I think that could wind up being a big factor (at least in Florida, and maybe places like Arizona too). Speaking fluent Spanish doesn't automatically mean he cares about Latino Americans, but it certainly isn't going to hurt. (granted, it'll piss off some white folks who are upset he isn't speaking American, but those people are probably already voting for Trump)

If Kaine helps Clinton wins Florida and Virginia,Trump will need to pick up a bunch of other normally blue states to win in November
