these scenes actually seemed so on the nose, like they knew the audience would expect the exact opposite of what happened. like there was an odd calm after each scene like, everything that COULD go wrong...just doesnt. cept the whole debt thing you know

I watched it with my mom and would hear her mutter to herself like 'oh he has cancer' and 'oh no she killed herself' which definitely made me consider it hard but yeah , my gut reaction was like 'no way they go that direction'

i fully expected she killed herself hes gonna find her and then his kids gonna come in and see it and thats gonna be the final divide between him and idina but, then the scene just.....ended.

Yeah I asked that a few days ago and no one said they had, I'm legitimately scared to watch it again

lol yeah this too - i thought for sure he might have killed her or drugged her or something and stole the money, but, nope, just a regular scene lol

I'm likely gonna see it a second time this week.

I'm very curious to hear my mom's reaction to it. She keeps talking about how much she wants to see it, but I know she's gonna hate it. She unironically loved Cats.

She’ll be upset when there’s no Rob Schneider in the movie

Naw. She's not a fan of Sandler period, so it's strange that she's interested in this. She likes feel good "Hallmark/Lifetime type movies" with happy endings.

My mom wants to see this which makes zero sense to me. She’d have a panic attack 5 minute in and leave.

Tell her to leave the theater immediately after the basketball game ends

Yup, this was absolutely incredible. Good Time is one of my favorite movies ever so I don't think this will ever top that for me but it was everything I hoped it would be. Sandler is fucking amazing, I legit forgot it was him while I was watching him. I really hope the great reception to this drives him to do more shit like this. That basketball scene was so fucking intense, which is amazing since it's just built around archive footage of a 7 year old game. Julia Fox has a BRIGHT career ahead of her too, and as much as I love Lakeith his character was so irritating in this lol (in the way he was supposed to be)

This has gotta be the first time Sandler has died in a movie right? I kind of expected him to be dead by the end but certainly not like that in that scene lol
Sorry, this post is all over the place lol, I already can tell I will be thinking about this movie for days

Just got out of the film. The ending kills the film for me, otherwise I loved every single second up until the final 5 minutes

For what it’s worth I think that was the happiest ending Howard would get. He went out on top after a huge win, I don’t think it was really about money as much as the “score”. Even if he received all the money he would end up gambling it away and still likely get killed.

he had a smile on his face as he bled out

I lost my mind when he was betting on the freaking opening tip. Simultaneously one of the funniest and most stressful things I've ever seen.

I worked in a treatment center for years that had a gambling program, it fascinated me to talk to people there who had gambling problems. Every single one of them said it's about the rush you get from the chase, winning was definitely not the thing they get addicted to.

That's what I've come to learn from seeing gambling addiction portrayed in tv and film. Thank god I'm not an addict but I've definitely felt that rush at a casino so I get it. But certain people have addictive personalities and can't control it. I live about 15 minutes away from Mohegan Sun but I've been to casinos a bunch of times and usually bet small. Most I've lost was $250 and I rarely win, so that curbs my desire to do it again.

I live across the street from a casino and have also been sober from drugs and alcohol for 5 years after battling with addiction, i've been to a casino once and won like 50 bucks but I'm still afraid to really go for it given my past.

I've met tons of people with drug and alcohol problems and their spouses/significant others many times stuck it out with whoever was suffering but people with gambling problems always had their wives/husbands leave them. Always. They have heartwrenching stories about just losing absolutely everything of any value to them and their families.

The more I think about the ending, the more it makes sense. Howard had to die in the end, I just didn’t see both him and his brother in law being gunned down by the guy who I hated the entire film

I knew he was going to die as soon as it becomes clear that he’s keeping those guys in there for the whole game lol. Though I figured his brother was going to be fine with it by that point

Idk why I saw this on New Years Eve as the year was turning over, but it was an awesome way to start the year, I liked this a lot more than I thought I would, even with the great reviews

Putting on Happy Gilmore because this movie made me want to watch some Sandler classics somehow, I believe this one is his best? Idk
