Yeah, I don't know if it's just YouTube compression or whatever but the iTunes preview on the New Zealand store definitely sounds of better quality. Just amped to get an official release of the song.

Wasn't going to buy "Mene" or "I Am A Nightmare," assuming they were going to be on the album, but I'm going to get the single on Bandcamp just for the official release of "Out of Range." Yet another great song by them finally getting a real release.

I've said this many times, but it's one of my favorite Brand New tracks.

    forbidden chalice.

It probably could be better, but I finished it and I'm pretty satisfied. Here's my "Fake LP5" using only the B-Sides on Spotify and no already existing songs from other records (two exceptions, Battalions, if you count it as Archers, and a "pretend this is a hidden track" Yeah)

...and one head can never die

    1. Good Man (Demo 2006)
    2. Mene
    3. I Am A Nightmare
    4. Missing You (Reworked)
    5. (Fork And Knife) (Single Version)
    6. 1996 (Reworked)
    7. Brother's Song (Reworked)
    8. Nobody Moves (Demo 2006)
    9. Battalion

    Hidden Track:

    10. Yeah (Sowing Season) (Demo 2006)

I've always loved the concept of opening the record with Good Man, and when Mene came out, it felt like an obvious choice to me to put that after Good Man if I ever made this kind of playlist. I Am A Nightmare feels like a solid "catchy songs in the beginning" sequencing pick, especially right after Mene. After a short bit of silence caused by the next song, the creep of Missing You comes in. Fork and Knife felt like a good middle track and the single version feels like Brand New's version of a pop song. I put the two Reworked songs after it. Nobody Moves and Battalion were prime contenders for the closer, but on one try, I felt like Nobody Moves -> Battalion was best.

I put Yeah there for kicks. Sowing Season is somewhat of a fan favorite now and I'd love the idea of Brand New tacking on Yeah at the end of the album as a little ode to that. I wish there was an "add gap" feature inbetween songs on Spotify though, haha.

But yeah, if there's a better way to sequence it, let me know. I didn't want to spend too much time on it because I lose my sense of how to sequence stuff once I'm playing songs over and over to fit tracks. I wonder where I'll put Out Of Range once it comes out...

Currently uploading a video of Moshi Moshi from the other night in Nashville. One of my friends was being a jackass and talking during the song and singing the wrong lyrics in the background, so I apologize in advance for him. haha

A friend told me reworked "Brothers" sounded like a Jimmy Buffett song and now I can't unhear it.

Yeah, I noticed changes immediately. More reverb on the intro, and Jesse's vocals during the second verse are pushed into the background more.

Apparently it's been floating around the internet since 2010 or so, but it really exploded in popularity recently, I think either last year or the year before.

Wow, this really benefits from the remastering, given that it's so sparse instrumentally. The vocals sound great too

The earliest version of Out of Range appeared on YouTube in 2013, I think that's when I first remember hearing about it. I like this song, I imagine myself eventually completely falling in love with it. But it starts off really great then kind of loses some steam for me somewhere in the middle. I'll take it though.

Modest Mouse went 8 years without releasing an album, but many of the tracks that ended up on Strangers to Ourselves had been floating around for 3-4 years before STO was released. I guess when you wait 7-8 years to release an album, songs as old as this may find their way on the new album.

I really think these guys are just unloading everything before the new album. Making sure all the loose ends are tied up.

Then they'll release LP5, tour it, and call it a day. There won't be anything to wonder about because they'll have released everything that's been floating around.

Also a prediction: I don't think IAAN or Mene will appear on the album. I now the press release says so, but I just have a feeling they won't be (unless they're bonus tracks.)

Nightmare and Sealed to Me have to be on the album. The fact that Mene was released on a 7" single with an old demo (Out of Range) lead me to believe those are one-offs similar to the reworked demos. In fact, they could've been written around the same time, which would explain releasing them together.
