He’s definitely lying. Here he is just walking around Target with no walker.

Totally separate note but I love how it’s almost 2020 and the best solution for walkers is still tennis balls.

  8. Terry Gilliam rips Black Panther: "I think the people who made it have never been to Africa"
IndieWire sat down with Terry Gilliam to interview him about his new film, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. When the subject of Marvel movies came up, he spewed out the above comments. And when they asked him if he thought Black Panther only received that much hype because of its commitment to “identity politics”, Gilliam replied that “it makes my blood boil.”

“I hated Black Panther. It makes me crazy. It gives young black kids the idea that this is something to believe in. Bullshit. It’s utter bullshit. I think the people who made it have never been to Africa,” he said. “They went and got some stylist for some African pattern fabrics and things. But I just I hated that movie, partly because the media were going on about the importance of bullshit.”

i dont even like 95% of marvel movies but they really gotta quit asking old white dudes for opinions on them. i don’t need to know what Herzog thinks about rocket raccoon actually yes yes i do

Herzog would have the best opinion without a doubt.

Terry looks bad here but I also hate that they asked that identity politics question at all.

Every white dude eager to have an opinion about Black Panther's legitimacy as a vehicle to comment on race and identity comes across as slovenly racist.

I can’t even parse our exactly what he means by that. “It gives black kids the idea that this is something to believe in” - what is the “this” here? Identity politics, just in general? What about it? The interviewer made the choice to broach the subject but couldn’t be bothered to pin him down to any substantive answer

  16. Seems to me we should be more worried about the prominent director with seemingly shitty opinions about representation than the interviewer who asked about it

I've been seeing on Twitter that Saudi Arabia has been inviting social media stars and such to post stuff to boost their image. Fucking gross.

You literally just used “seemingly” yourself lol, which goes to my point that it’s difficult to parse out what he even means. And yes it actually kinda is the interviewer’s job to make the interviewee answers questions substantively. Otherwise they’re giving him plenty of room to wriggle around it later

Yeah that Philippe post blew my mind in the politics thread. I can’t even say I’m surprised because I know nothing about him, but what a bad look. Are there any posts about Armie specifically too?

  25. I'm saying it's very clearly more problematic for Gilliam to broadcast a shitty opinion about representation than it is for an interviewer to ask him about the topic, and I say "seemingly" because I'm unsure of whether the rest of his views on the matter are as shitty as this one (or, potentially worse).
