From writer/director Guy Ritchie comes THE GENTLEMEN, a star-studded sophisticated action comedy. THE GENTLEMEN follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him (featuring an all-star ensemble cast including Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant).

Wait, that was Charlie Hunnam? Legit thought it was Tom Hardy until the end.

Either way, looks like a fun movie.

watched last night, kinda torn. i had fun in spots but some of it felt a bit incoherent. the cast definitely boosts things. overall i’d probably say it’s pretty good even if it doesn’t touch lock stock or snatch (though fans of both of those should find quite a bit to enjoy here)

surprisingly campy meta take on the crime genre films.

everyone on screen is having a blast hamming it up (especially hugh grant) and it's a blast.

there's a wonderful small gag towards the end involving a ghillie suit that's top tier comedy as well.

Wait I’m confused is he saying the movie is making fun of Asian names and accents? Or just that the audience was laughing at the Asian characters? Because one is completely fucked but the other says more about the audience than the movie doesn’t it?

It's the way those names and accents are played up for laughs. I remember reading that there's a whole extended bit about a character named Phuc, and at some point someone says "ricense to kill" in reference to an Asian character. There were some other weird moments I read about.
