This is absolutely not the most Star Warsy movie.

I meant in the sense of how many Star Wars tropes can they jam pack quickly into a movie, then I'd say this is that movie.

As far as a Star Wars movie with depth, character development, an amazing story, good lore and unexpected twists, this is nowhere near being the most Star Warsy movie.

This whole Johnson did Abrams dirty and screwed up his “plans” for the trilogy is so confusing to me. I mean JJ was executive producer on TLJ. It’s also well documented that JJ gave notes to Johnson on his initial pitch and that they had multiple long conversations about the direction of the film during its production.

Yeah, my sister's observation made me laugh more than anything.

I don't think there's anything "dirty" done between Abrams and Johnson. While it sucks that their two styles of filmmaking didn't mesh, I'm sure it's very much a "He did his thing, and I'm doing mine." kinda thing. I love Abrams' fan service and spectacle take, but I love what Johnson did with TLJ.

    Nah it was “BALLZ”

  9. There were too many “digs” for it not to be intentional in this movie. And it took me out of it.

Digs, from a certain point of view.

“Luke, you’re going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.“

They seemed like digs to me too. But I guess you could argue they weren’t personal to Rian Johnson and more of a “look guys, we are fixing that”.

I'm having the feeling that I need to see this movie again and soon. I enjoyed it the first time, but it's currently impossible for me to rank, aside of it being above the prequels.

I mean, literally the first words of spoken dialogue in TFA are “This will begin to make things right” lol he hasn’t exactly been subtle about using the movies for digs like that

Just got back and I honestly loved it so much. I think it did a good job of balancing the Last Jedi with the direction JJ chose to take it (as in, I thought they were going to toss it aside even more than they did). I don’t think they undid the “anyone can be a hero” theme of TLJ because the message that you’re more than what you’re born as is still here, and we see Finn showing force sensitivity the same way Leia did in the original trilogy, and then the line about “not a fleet, just people”. It got a little carried away with fan service but I wasn’t mad about it. I think they handled Leia as good as they could have, the scenes with Palpatine were genuinely creepy, it all just worked much better than it could have. The only thing that really didn’t work for me was the kiss I never saw their bond as romantic it felt more like a kinship/mutual respect. And I do kind of wish Kyle stayed alive because it’d be interesting to see how he was accepted back or not (presumably he’d still be held accountable). But I left the theater very very happy. Excited to see it again tomorrow

  20. Seeing it a second time made me realize the things I LOVED about it so much but the things I kinda questioned the first time really bugged me the second time. Overall, though, still super fun!

Same for me. Loved the things I loved more. Disliked the things I disliked more. Still really like this movie.

FFS this fandom. J.J.'s Instagram hasn't had a post since the passing of Peter Mayhew, but people are still commenting giving him shit for this movie.

I feel like every time I think of him acting in these movies he's just wide eyed and shouting? definitely not really a memorable character for me in the trilogy.
