I still have my problems with TLJ (and I do love TFA), but man did this make me long for Rian.

I haven't finished the FC review yet (it's three hours long haha). There's a few things that they mentioned that I hadn't thought about which I appreciate. Namely, Ben having a lot of Han mannerisms after he turned and Leia being the one that turns Ben back further heightening her importance in these stories. That's all I really have at the moment though.

I'm sadly in the same spot as you. I walked out of this really in a state of shock at how much I disliked it and not really wanting to see it again ever. The FC pdocast before this came out talked about how their rewatch will be the last time they are able to view these movies (TFA & TLJ) without the context of TROS. At first, I was excited by that idea. Now I'm bummed.

At the end of the day, I just keep reminding myself that it's a movie and if I don't like it, it's really fine. I accept the prequels for what they are even if I don't like them and I'm sure I'll feel the same about this. It just came out, so I have feelings to get out and I'm enjoying the discussion, but I'm not going to be one of those people who won't stop screaming about how bad it is years later.

Remember when it was reported that he was also doing a story treatment for IX? I wish that had been true.

Was JUST thinking about this. Honestly would've been ideal.

I don’t remember laughing out loud at any moments that were intended to be serious, but I’m pretty sure when dark Rey hissed I let out an audible, “Oh boy.”

I don’t care what J.J. says now, you cannot convince me that Finn was not in love with Rey. It’s pretty obvious across all three movies. It’s equally as obvious that he is force sensitive. You think one of the most powerful force sensitives (Rey) can’t sense this person she has been traveling with all this time is also force sensitive? She sensed a tiny box in the basement of a huge building, a tree on an island, something underneath the island, and god knows what else but she couldn’t sense that? No sir.
When she kissed Ben all I could think was poor Finn.

Ehh I feel like it's alway been obvious that he was in love with her, but I could also always tell Rey was more drawn to Ben than Finn.

I’ve never rolled my eyes harder in a movie than I did during Rey and Ben’s kiss.

The movie was fine but it was easily the worst of the trilogy.

For real. It felt like that only happened to appease those awful Reylo people. But then he immediately dies so they aren’t happy either. We all just get pain.

Liked this a lot more than I thought I would. TLJ still king of the sequel trilogy though.

Ugh reading this just reminded me how Finn never reached his potential across the entire trilogy. There was so much that could have been done with him but as a main character it felt like he was barely even there.

    just finished round 2.

The Star Destroyer above Endor definitely got Holdo Maneuvered, right?

I was able to enjoy it much more this time around. still heartily disagree with the choice to make Rey not a nobody/feel the need to take the Skywalker name, but I think that’s it now.
Finn was for sure wanting to let Rey that he was feeling the Force, so it still kiiiinda keeps the theme that anyone can be a Force user. maybe Jana, too, with her interaction with Lando? “feeling” that maybe he is her dad? not as sure on that one.

still loved 3-po in this a whole lot.

everything else with Rey & Kylo was wonderful. wish we didn’t have to look into Rey’s dead eyes so long.

I hate all of the story decisions they made here, but I also am not a fan of very fast hyperkinetic editing and pacing. The beginning of this movie is fucking ROUGH. It eventually settles down a tiny bit, but I honestly think I would have an easier time ignoring the shit writing / storytelling if the movie slowed down even the tiniest bit and allowed the story some moments driven by character and not chaotic plot incident.

Kylo Ren is the character most let down by this film, but I think Finn takes the cake as the character most let down by the trilogy as a whole. JJ Abrams definitely never figured out or decided what to do with him.

Just rewatched TFA for the first time in 2 1/2 years, such a great SW movie.

On to TLJ, then I’ll probably go and rewatch TROS some time this week

The whole bit of Randall doing the LOTR movies by walking back and forth was amazing

J.J. Abrams voices D-0. First line said to D-0 in whole film is something along the lines of "Looks like you've been treated badly. It's okay, you're with us now."

My sister said that was a subtle dig at Johnson.

Also, I enjoyed this way more on a second viewing. I loved it first time around, but really understood the criticism and disappointment. There's a lot of issues here, not arguing there.

The pacing of the first hour isn't too bad once you know it's there, and the emotional beats still hit. It's the most Star Warsy Star Wars to get shoved in your face for 2 and a half hours, but it's J.J. Abrams, and I'm into it.

Again, not saying it's perfect. Nowhere near, but I enjoy more of it than I dislike, and I feel as though it works well as a trilogy and saga closer. Just that though, it works well. It didn't blow me away and I wished for a bit more, but it worked. I could feel me going to this the same amount I go to ROTS and Solo.
