On paper, this is the strangest movie ever made. It’s fucking incredible

 

Oh gotcha. From those last two comments I was wondering if something had been posted here and then deleted.

 

Well, I didn't love the movie, but it was sort of hypnotic in how non-stop its energy was and Sandler's performance was top-notch.

 

This was wild. Between this and Good Time, I'm very much into the Safdie's. Gonna have to check out Heaven Knows What and possibly Daddy Longlegs.

 

How similar is this to Good Time? (the more the better imo)

 

It's fairly similar.

Absolutely adored Good Time so UG is v anticipated

 

I loved every single second of this movie. So damn good. Sandler is incredible. The whole cast for that matter is so good.

So much fun to watch. Movie will have ultra high replay value as well. Instant classic.

I honestly was pretty disappointed with Good Time, which on paper should have been one of my favorite movies ever (moody bank heist film with Robert Pattinson and a OPN OST??). I just prefer Ratner to Pattinson’s character so much. I found Pattinson’s character to be annoying. Ratner is still “loveable”

 

They're both gritty films set in New York about selfish people. Not sure if you'll like Uncut Gems if you disliked Good Time, but it's not like they just remade Good Time or did a sequel. These are 2 fairly different movies, despite me also saying they're similar (I realize that makes no sense)

 

I would agree with @radiodead that Sandler's character is somehow relate-able/likeable despite being a narcissistic piece of shit

 

I found Daddy Longlegs pretty tedious in a similar way to the mumblecore films that were popping up around the same time, but Heaven Knows What is a must-see, near masterpiece. I prefer it over Good Time (which is still great) quite a bit. This is definitely their best so far though. Hoping to see The Pleasure of Being Robbed soon.

There's a solid selection of their early shorts on The Criterion Channel too. The Acquaintances of a Lonely John is definitely worth the ~12 min.

 

I feel like Deadpool 2 played with this a little bit

watched Heaven Knows What last night and it was solid too. might have to sign up for Criterion for a bit to watch the shorts.

Finally saw Good Time and it was stressful as hell.

stoked to see this in a few days

 

this was fucking incredible. definitely in my top 5 of the year, maybe even my favorite but need to see it again
