Anyone else notice that the festival at the beginning only happens every 42 years? It’s been 42 years since the first Star Wars movie was released.

Duel of the Fates fight is easily one of the best sequences in all of Star Wars anything that I've ever seen.

This movie didn't even feel competently put together. The editing was so awful and the cinematography was dark and dull.

I loved JJ's directorial choices in TFA, and every shot of that movie just bleeds reverence for Star Wars. But here it really feels like very little thought was put into creating an artful film. Moments that should have had so much weight are glossed over so quickly. I don't think a single shot lasts over 2 seconds. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I hardly laughed and didn't shed a single tear during this thing. That's a big problem.

so, are we just thinking its coincidence that the madalorian episode released early featured BY force healing someone, then suddenly it happens in this movie for (what i can remember as) the first time?

    yeah good okay Prestigious

Have we talked about the pacing at all? It was absurd.

Kylo finds Palpatine and we find out Snoke was a clone in literally the first 5 minutes of the movie. And then it doesn't let up for like half an hour.

The first time I felt like I could truly catch my breath was when Poe was talking on the roof with Zorri. It was just too much too fast.

It’s further down on my list of gripes, but is it so hard to get a top notch lightsaber duel? The three best lightsaber scenes of the Disney era have no saber on saber action (Vader R1, Throne Room TLJ, Exogul saber swap TROS).

    Things have changed.

Shrug. I really liked this. I definitely did NOT like The Last Jedi all that much.

Either Abrams heard Favreau was going to do that and used it too or vice versa. No way they both coincidentally thought of the same thing lol

We reach for the longest shadow

I feel like the easiest way to process this is to look at each character individually.

I like Rey, but her going to from being no one, suddenly having powers, learning she's a Palpatine, killing Palpatine eventually... I don't know. I never got really invested in her. I read it in here earlier, but if she had any sort of real consequence of something she did wrong, then maybe I would feel different. If she actually killed Chewie. If she even seemed remorseful while she was healing Kylo Ren's wound. I also agree that her just coming to grips that she's just Rey, not Palpatine, not Skywalker, just Rey, would've been cool.

Finn... didn't really develop here? He made every predictable good guy choice. He stood up for his friends. He was a hype man. It makes more sense that he wanted to tell Rey he had feelings for her more so than saying he's force sensitive. Why would he want to tell Rey, "hey I'm force sensitive!" right when he thinks he's about to die?

I like Poe here. I think they allow him to come to grips with the mistakes he makes throughout the movies, sheds a little light on his past, and albeit short-lived, I love the interactions between him and his love interest. His reaction when he thought the Resistance was about to lose was fantastic. Great scene.

Palpatine. sigh. I greatly enjoyed everything involving the Sith planet. I think it was the coolest part of the move from an aesthetic standpoint. The implied lore there is really cool to me. The fact that he was a puppet master all along really makes everything after Vader threw him over the ledge on the death star seem... hollow. I need to do some reading on exactly what was going on with the power of two stuff that got referenced. One of my buddies who is big into comic books/video games/fan theories loved all of it. But that leads me to...

Kylo Ren is the gem of this series, and since it is the Skywalker Saga, it is my head canon that this story has always been about him. He was the most dynamic character through this entire 3 movie arc. I love him. Adam Driver somehow portrayed a completely different person after the talk with Han without saying a word. He deserved to be THE bad guy.

The Leia scenes really took me out of the movie, they felt extremely forced. I was shocked she had as much dialog as she did, I thought it would just be a line or two.

Anyway. I'm tired of typing, but I *liked* it, I'm just mad they retconned so much of TLJ for no reason other than fan service. Even Luke saying he was dumb to run away in exile was a big eyeroll moment for me.

3PO admitting that he still had the words to the sword in his mind was pretty funny.

man i gotta disagree here, thought there was some great Poe & Finn moments, and the new droid provided a laugh or two. The scene where Rey and Poe were bickering came off as weird and went on too long though imo and i think that was meant to be funny.

Honestly out of all of the duels in the saga, that’s only in front of the Attack of the Clones duels for me.

    also, so we're definitely getting a Poe/Zuri spinoff/prequel right?

I think they released it that way on purpose. In my head I am now wondering...

Does Luke ever encounter BY and learn that from him and scribe it into the Jedi texts?

Does Rey meet BY in her year of training between TLJ and TROS and learn that from him?

Did Rey/Luke hear about it from someone else?

At the end celebration when Poe looked at Zuri like "we gonna kiss??" and she's like "nah"

    That was great.

Kylo Ren *absolutely* should have been the big bad in this movie. At the end of TLJ, Snoke is dead, Rey refused to join Kylo, the Resistance escaped, Luke spectacularly trolled his nephew, and so we're left with a new Supreme Leader who is very, very pissed off. It was setup so perfectly and that we didn't get that in TROS is a travesty.

  22. I got prequels vibes from some fights this time, and not in a good way. Felt like I was watching a cliché Shonen anime.
