Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (J.J. Abrams, December 20, 2019) Movie • Page 292

  1. The moment I read the part about a galaxy wide collect call from (fuck it) Palps, I was like .... uh what. And that first thirty minutes is then edited like someone is on actual speed.

First act felt like a recap of a season of tv or something how fast every scene was

  3. The National Treasure moment of the knife fitting the Death Star and pointing at the spot was a choice.

The only thing he said after seeing Han was “Ouch,” so maybe it was Leia after he got lightning blasted.

It was also one of the worst looking knives ever. Had no sharpness. Looks like one of daggers you’d get from a ninja set at a dollar store.

More than anything I think I’m just confused that this is a real thing that a major studio put out

Kind of in shock. I can’t believe how much I disliked this movie. I’m in a compromised, negative state so I don’t want to dish out my opinions as to not stomp on other people’s love. I kind of don’t even want to absorb any reviews or discussion about this movie going forward because l felt so empty after watching this. It’s the first SW I’ve disliked from Disney.

I imagine this is what it felt like for so many people after TLJ or the prequels. It’s really my first time being such a fanatic of something and being so let down so I’m trying to handle it in a grounded way lol

I think all I can do is be grateful I made it through the movie in spite of my poor health and that I will forever have The Last Jedi and my personal experience with it. I’m going to take what I learned from that movie and not fight what I “hate” about this movie and focus on what I love in other art.

I’ll say visually the movie is spectacular and the action set pieces are brilliant. I loved the practical effects and the in camera magic.

I’m peacin out of this thread as i don’t really feel like talkin about it or engaging in the inevitable debates so I’ll just say I’m truly happy for all those who got more out of this than I did and hopefully everyone can discuss the movie in civil, Jedi way!

Is paplatine having children ever discussed in books/extended universe or is this something JJ drew up?

i’m having a hard time grasping that, with everything that went on in the OT with palpatine wanting luke to join the dark side, he wasnt just, like trying to just train his own son, who surely had to already be alive by the time the events of the OT happened....

That first thirty minutes opening with Palp Daddy still being alive to that Michael Bay-edited heist run that introduces a mole in the First Order and some apparent new way of flying the Millennium Falcon with its speedjump whatever its called was jarring as hell.

Just wanted to point out that even though I’m really dunking on the movie I still enjoyed it and had a good time.

But here’s another: Why go through all that trouble resurrecting yourself if the end goal is just because you want someone else to kill you and take your power? You’re already back, just keep the power

  16. Jar Jar pulled a Holdo maneuver on a ship in my head canon.

  17. In my head I was like “damn bet they wish they had thought of doing that about a billion times before in the other films.”

I’m also just going through my rant phase of stuff I disliked. And I liked some things too and had fun at moments and got emotional at the (very manipulative) moments, but damn did a lot of it just not work for me and felt so ... foreign.

I won’t lie, I got emotional when they broke the news to Chewie.

He didn’t even get that upset about Han! But yeah that was good

  20. Ok let’s get weird.

Palps creates Anakin and then Anakin has Leia who has Ben.

Palps also has a son who has Rey.

So how are Ben and Rey related are they force cousins half removed?! I need to know how creeps this kiss is.

Chewie’s moment should have been tragic as hell. But iirc, they shot it so weird and at a distance that it just wasn’t. Then they just kind of went to the next scene and Chewie didn’t matter until they had some callback they had to make.

I didn’t hate this, but also haven’t been this bewildered since probably BvS, which makes sense since somehow that co-writer has enough clout to co-write this.
