I'm still ok w/ the lightsaber toss, even if there's a somewhat better way that could've been handled, because I really don't like the dramatic spinning shot that TFA ends on. The actual comedic impact of that moment is whatever, but picturing Rey's arrival on Ahch-To in TFA through her reaction to Luke's toss & walking away is hilarious to me.

Also, people can like or dislike whatever, taste is relative, etc., but, like, I seriously love Canto Bight so very much. As I've said before (& I know others have expressed the same thought), it's straight up "what if the prequels were good" in the best way. Gives me great Valérian and Laureline vibes. If they ever make a new film or series set on Coruscant exploring Star Wars politics more deeply, I'd love to see Canto Bight as part of that.

The lightsaber toss is where I fully got on board with the movie. The Paige Tico sequence was really great, but the lightsaber toss was the first time a Disney Star Wars movie surprised me and from then on I was in.

  5. LIghtsaber toss is fine. The only rough spots of this for me is the Poe Hux interaction in the very beginning and Canto Bight.

    Everything on Crait is incredible.

    I'm not brave Prestigious

I’d still put TESB and ANH as my top two, but this is firmly my third favorite now.

I cant rank this above any of the OT no matter how much I love it, so it's firmly entrenched at #4 overall for me

    5 > 4 > 6> 8 > 7 > Solo > Rogue One > 3 > 1 > 2

I think I agree. That's not a knock on this, maybe nostalgia is too strong, but so much of the Tattoine sequences are so fun, and the throne room scene is among Star Wars' most resonant and feels like the true climax and maturation of the story (which TLJ follows up on and expands beautifully).

5>4>6>8>Rogue One and I don't really care about the rest

I love the lightsaber toss very much.

Don’t love the bomber sequence as much. It’s aight, a better opening than II, maybe I, but I don’t like it as much as the others.

The only part of Canto Bight that gives me the eyerolls is the escape and Finn’s goofy yell.

I watch the green milk scene every morning while I do the same.

Holdo’s plan makes sense! and Poe’s arc is very reminiscent of Han’s in A New Hope.

Broom Boy is theoretically a welcome touch, but I don’t love it. Way too literal for me, and while I don’t know anything about early childhood development, anecdotally, I was able to find common identity w Luke when I was a kid, I dunno if it helps to beat kids over the head w it. On the other hand, I know nothing.

Damn I think this may have moved beyond RotJ into my #2 spot for Star Wars movies

I like the lightsaber toss, though I do think it would have been a hair better if he threw it in the same way he did in ROTJ.

  14. The issues I have with TLJ after the latest re-watch really only come down to ... Mark Hamill's performance. He's just not a very good actor in this and I think all those years of hamming it up to the nth degree in roles shows just around the edges.

whaaaaa!??? That is a hot take. I think this is his best performance, hands down.

I have not. Been on my watch list for a while though.

  18. I really liked it and think it's his best performance in a while. I just don't think he's a very good actor unfortunately. And I can't not see his little over the top flourishes that feel so theatrical and unnatural. It's like buddy, tamp it down a tad, you're not playing Trickster here.

It's more noticeable early in the movie, and his final scenes and moments with Leia and on Creit are much better.

Brigsby Bear rules and Hamill is incredible in it but also I think Hamill is really good in this

He makes me sooo uncomfortable at the end of The Force Awakens when he's like tilting his head looking at Rey. Genuinely think it would've been better if he stared at her dead pan or did.. anything else.

Will update opinion on his acting when I rewatch Last Jedi.

I'll try to watch it over Christmas when I've got time.

I think that's a fair assessment. His scenes with Kylo & Carrie at the end are for sure his best when he's playing a character more at peace. I felt like the over the top aspect worked well with the disillusioned and grumpy Luke on Ahch-To.

Though in my rewatch of the OT, it was abundantly clear why Hamill didn't have that much success after Star Wars. He has some line deliveries that are just comically bad. And his more stoic "I'm a badass Jedi" take during the Jabba scenes are... well let's just say I'm reaaallly glad that's not the character Rian went with because I don't think I would have been able to take it seriously.

  23. Looking at his IMDB, it's wild how much voice work he does.

And he was probably always the worst actor of him, Ford, and Fisher.

Luke in The Last Jedi is easily my favourite Luke. I was never a huge fan of him in the originals honestly and it's probably part of why I don't love them quite as much as most fans do.

See I would say the same except with del Toro's performance. I think Hamill is phenomenal in this
