    My longest yeah boy ever

It has everything I could want in a Korn record, there’s nothing I really feel like skipping; sure, K@#*%! is immature af but it’s so absurd it becomes enjoyable again and also the music itself rules, and maybe Wicked and Lowrider are unnecessary but they’re really fun and add to the “band in a room with their friends just fucking around and jamming” vibe I love about the record.

Self-titled is a very close second; really love the dark, airy atmosphere of that one and the rawness and how loose the performances are. My only real issues with that one are that there are a couple songs that just feel kinda filler-y (tho they have still grown on me immensely to the point I can and frequently do listen to the album without skipping, they’re just not songs I return to on their own), and a couple of the songs I do love have some parts that feel kind of unnecessary and would benefit the songs to be cut. This mostly feels like the marker of a band just getting started and learning how to best craft their songs and hone their skills, so it’s hard to hold it against them. For a debut, it’s astounding and truly groundbreaking in context of the time and still, to this day, nothing else sounds like it (with the exception of I guess LiP tho that still has its own thing going on too).

From there, I’m kinda torn between Follow the Leader and Issues. Both would be benefited from trimming some fat, both have songs I love and songs I’m either indifferent on or flat out hate/skip. Both also reach tremendous heights and have their own distinct moods. Beyond that, none of their other full lengths have really clicked for me, tho I do dig select songs from some of their other records.

I think the self titled System of a Down album might be my favorite "nu metal" record ever

  4. Alright, you all made me want to do my first Korn discography run in 15 years. Idk what happened to dissociate myself from them at one point, but they're a special band to me. Someone Somebody was the first song I downloaded through Kazaa, and Untouchables is one of my very first albums. I remember my brother getting Take A Look In The Mirror the following Christmas, and to my surprise I have very clear memories of that day, like it was yesterday. I can't count how many times we've watched the Live At Hammerstein DVD together. We randomly got it at a mall at such a low price, so it was a steal.

I don't understand how my connection with such a sonically weird band happened, like I was 7-8 at the time and just getting into music in general, but I owe them a lot for broadening my tastes. I think I still have the Issues wallet I wore everyday in middle school somewhere lol. I'm curious to hear how well the early albums hold up. I haven't listened to anything post-Take A Look In The Mirror so I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Tbh I haven’t even tried with anything post-Untouchables, barring The Nothing, so Godspeed lmao. But I really fucking love this band, I’m so glad I got over myself and the idea of being too cool for them or the stigma around them!! It’s been a rewarding experience to have them back in full force in my listening rotation.

That’s not to say they’re without their faults of course, there’s a lot of problematic shit on their records (and the white boy dreads :anguish:), but also like :shrug2: it was a very different time and the songs fuckin’ bang.

i wanna talk about Serenity of Suffering. I think, even though The Nothing is good, SOS is better. I immediately got "the feels" for it when I heard it and I didn't get the same feeling with the newest record. I think it's just more my style, even though I think Korn might just get a bit more creative in The Nothing.

This is my current jam and song of the day (Black is the Soul)

Anyone remember the band, Element Eighty? They were sorta local to me. Came across their CD in my closet the other day and I've been jamming them nonstop ever since. They had quite a few bangers.

Late to the Korn discussion but I've been on a real kick with them this week.

Not that it matters, but I firmly believe they'll be in the Rock Hall of Fame one day.

  10. Didn't they have a song on NFS Underground 1?

I’m still on my kick tbh. I’m just sad I can’t really fuck with anything past Issues outside of a few select tracks.

I'll pick out the older stuff 9 times out of 10, but that's why the "This Is..." playlists on Spotify are great. Gives you the meat from the later ones.

Can't argue the top 5. I'd put Boiler above My Way. No chance in hell that Ready to Go is a top 10 track. I like Eat You Alive as much as the next guy, but at 12? I can't agree.

Anyway, I'm bored at work so I've thought about this list a lot.

    "I'll chew on a dog!"

I remember seeing Primer 55 when they toured on their second record and when I met the singer outside their tour bus he said “Thanks for coming to the show” and I responded with a quick “You too”. Instant mortification.

Not really nu metal, but I assume there are some fans in here: Stabbing Westward dropped a new EP today and it's not half-bad!

No. 1 is spot on! I would have liked to have seen It'll be ok on there though.

So excited! Haven't heard it yet, but SW has always been one of my favorite bands.
