  1. Rewatching this tonight. God damn what an incredible film. It’s so fucking good.

Sometimes I just pull up the Yoda scene and get chills all over again watching it. It's truly incredible how someone could watch that scene in particular and then come away from this movie angry at Rian Johnson or thinking that Rian Johnson doesn't totally get Star Wars on a fundamental level.

Leia scene is great and idc :leia:

you’re all getting updates at each beer trip

  4. God damn even Canto Blight sets up the entire “uh fuck rich people profiting on war” part is so well done. I’ll never understand how people, especially Star Wars “fans,” didn’t shower this with more praise.

TFA is “fun” — this takes it all to a new level.

I’m the only one of my friends who likes this movie and I just don’t get it. The opening scene gave me chills the first time.

  6. I’m ready to fight people and run through walls watching it again. It’s magnificent and bold and so damn good.

  7. Luke’s speech. Explaining his hubris. His failure. Why being great once isn’t being great forever. How the fuck did people not understand what this movie is saying about the Jedi and legacy and good vs evil.

I honestly do not remember much about the Canto Bight sequence. I need to do a rewatch of Force Awakens and Last Jedi to refresh.

It's a beautiful set design and it gives some actually reasoning to how the First Order was able to rise out of the ashes of the Empire. Plus Finn's reactions on first arriving there are great, Rose drops some knowledge, I love DJ, and BB-8 shooting mall cops with coins. And the Fathier escape is way more fun than I remember. Seeing rich people's shit get destroyed is never not entertaining to me.

Rose: "That's how we're gonna win. Not fighting what we hate. Saving what we love."

Palpatine: "Let the hate flow through you."
Luke: "I will not fight you."

It's almost as if this character's philosophy, as beautifully depicted through the Canto Bight plotline, is literally the central philosophy of the entire Star Wars franchise. Love over hate, hope over fear, etc.

I also never got the people who complain about luke tossing the saber? It never felt like a funny beat to me or felt off, it was kind of expected. What else was he gonna do lol

He could have dropped it, handed it back, toss it aside (perhaps in a similar way to ROTJ), not taken it at all. His expression could also not been so deadpan when he did it.

there were a lot of options to convey that moment.

yeah the themes of this movie are sometimes greater than the screenplay as it delivers said themes

I still find canto bight and the resistance stuff physically boring as they play out even as the lessons learned are important. I also just flat out dont really like Finn or Poe. Rose and her story are great.

The jedi mythos stuff and the Rey and Kylo stuff is incredible AND fun and totally why this movie is one of the better SW.

yeah, while i don't hate that he immediately rejected her/the saber, i'm with greg that the way it happened i think, maybe could have been done better lol

Rewatched this last night for the first time in over a year... I kept in mind some of the recent discussions I’ve had about the movie, on here and elsewhere. And yeah, this is basically a masterpiece. I was actually blown away all over again, and any remaining nitpicks I had seemed so insignificant and trivial in the face of what this movie achieves. Fuck.
