Oh man. Obviously The Chronic is a classic, but ELE is low key a late 90's classic too. Some of the beats on it some of my favourite of all time. Plus it has a song on it that makes me enjoy Janet Jackson. That's unheard of haha

Yeah it's actually really good

 

The Chronic was the first rap album that I REALLY got into. I was nine when it was released and vividly remember getting my mom's friend/nail lady to buy it for me (she was my "hip hop plug" and would get me all the parental advisory stuff)

 

I hope Dre follows Jays lead and makes Chronic available on all streaming platforms. I think it's still Apple exclusive at the moment.

EDIT: Damn, Compton isn't there either.

Lupe just announced a Food & Liquor show in Cleveland. I definitely have to hit that up. Saw him years ago and was blown away. F&L is an all-timer for me.

I love shit like this. I’m always looking for good rap with production like this (as long as its not over the top)- RL Grime has some good songs, same with Flume, Good Times Ahead, and A-Trak... but a lot of the time it gets a little too wubby for my tastes. Anyone got any recs for stuff in this vein?

 

I assume you know it already because it's been out for years, but this is probably the peak example of what you're talking about.

I feel like telling you what I DO like would be a shorter list lol
I guess the main ones I listen to now are Aesop rock, clipping, open mike eagle, Milo, run the jewels, tech nine.... but I also like stuff like ashnikko and doja cat, if they count lol
So overall not really mainstream stuff more “alternative/art rap” stuff? Other than “pop rap” which is prob what ashnikko and them qualify as

idk. I don’t really like any mumble or SoundCloud rap or any of the hype stuff that’s really popular right now
