We literally had to build all our offices and beg, borrow, and steal to have a place on Bagram.

When I was at Mehtar Lam I had a room to myself that was bigger than my bedroom now. It was glorious.

 

I remember going in B Huts that we're getting destroyed and taking out furniture to use.

 

It's 2016 and Verizon still requires a second line to activate a phone. Who thinks (or rather, doesn't think) this through?

 

Haha. I started off in my own can and got moved to a b-hut. Then we moved to five man rooms in a permanent building. Living in the can was glorious. Most of the time we got put up in shacks when we traveled, but we got left alone. It was sooo nice.

I never went out to Mehtar but ended up in J-Bad and Asadabad a lot. Asadabad ruled. Mazari Sharif was probably my fave though because the Germans liked to party. lol

 

I remember hanging out with the British and they couldn't understand why we weren't allowed to party like them. They were hilarious.

 

The Brits were so crazy. They would just drive out in Jeeps and wonder why they kept blowing up.

 

Did you ever watch Afghans clear routes. They would literally just do hands across America and hope they don't step on IED. It was crazy.

 

Thankfully, I didn't have to do much with them. I was at the base where that General was killed a week or so before it happened. I was terrified even before that.

 

Co-worker made some white chocolate brownies that looked like cornbread. That'd be appropriate for April Fools, right?

 

Were you there in 2014? The platoon sergeant for that guys PSD was on Bagram preparing to get his platoon to leave to go back home and he randomly walked in our talk and was asking to use my phone to check on his guys and then sat there all day asking me if they had any updates. It felt so awkward to do anything that day.

I really have no idea how he knew we were there. We had no signs of anything of who we were.

I was there from late 2013 through a good portion of 2014. It was basically toward the very end of the tour. I think that was my last trip out. I'm not sure we even sent anyone out after that.

 

Sounds like we were there around the same time. Was there January to October.

 

My cousin and a few other guys ran over an IED once and everyone was fine but they all went deaf in the same exact ear. I thought that was kind of funny even though being active duty during a war isn't funny at all. Thanks for your service, fellas!

I'm flying to LA to see my brother this week, and we're driving down to Mexico to see my dad. Pretty excited for that, but not happy to leave my kiddo. That never gets easy.

 

I am doing much, much better. The detoxing was rough but the mental assistance and new medicine are working wonders
