Sounds great! I knew they were recording, but didn't think it would be only 2 months away.

I'm going to be at the Brisbane show too probably! I have decided to kick off my Australian adventure in that city, haha. I saw the line-up for this on Twitter a couple weeks ago and thought it looked rad.

Awesome! I think you'll like Brisbane, lovely warm weather, and very laid back. I went to the inaugural I Love Life last year and it was 2 young bands, then The Sidekicks, Iron Chic, AJJ and The Smith Street Band. Modern Baseball were set to play between The Sidekicks and Iron Chic, but sadly pulled out due to Brendan's personal issues, which was fair enough. It was amazing! I'm a huge fan of all 4 main bands, so it was a fantastic show. Different venue this year though. I haven't seen a show at The Triffid before. Can't wait to see Cayetana, Pity Sex, Camp Cope and Rozwell Kid!

Sweet, last year's line-up seems even more rad, but this year should be decent too! Your description of Brisbane is part of the reason I chose it. Seems like it's cheaper than Sydney/Melbourne too. What's the best way to find out about upcoming local bands/shows? Would love to get as much of the local perspective as I can. As long are you're willing to give it! No pressure of course.

Yes, definitely happy to help out!

This is what i use as a gig guide: Australian Gig Guide It's really comprehensive, with local bands as well as international ones. The main site Bombshellzine.com is great for local band news too. They have a seperate local news section for Australian bands, and though they do cover some terrible metal and metalcore bands, it's mostly good stuff. Case in point, i was just looking through the local news, and found out about this cool sounding new Brisbane band who are putting out their debut album in August! Columbus to release debut album, 'Spring Forever'.

I discover a lot of local bands by seeing them in support slots for bigger bands. So have a look at international bands that you like that are playing in Brisbane in the gig guide, and do a search on the support bands and have a listen. Most have Bandcamp pages. This way, it'll be the bands that play regularly that will come up, so it will cover a large section of the Brisbane scene for you :ok:

PUP are playing here on October 5, if you're still in town. The Brisbane band supporting them, Bugs, are so rad!
    .
They put out their debut album back in May.

Hope this helps! If i think of anything else, i'll let you know

That totally helps! Thanks, going to bookmark that site for sure. The tentative plan is to settle somewhere in the Brisbane/Gold Coast area for a couple months and find a job and then backpack through the northern half of the country and then catch a cheap flight to Indonesia and then probably back to Canada. What are some cool things to check out in Brisbane? What are some of the better neighborhoods? Curious about the local perspective on that as well.

Sharing cause I love Caskitt. But not really feeling their new song :tear: Their first two albums had this this unique, carefree poppy sound and this is just generic punk stuff. It's not bad by any means, and still excited to hear the rest of their album, but after the beauty that was TMKS this is just a little disappointing :speakno:

My voice is absolutely shot from seeing The Dirty Nil last night. They played every song off Higher Power except Bruto Bloody Bruto, also threw in 5 or 6 older ones. Super fun performance, Luke is a hell of a showman.

Love those guys! Dave's bass kept cutting out when they were in Winnipeg last August, but they were still awesome.

I hope everyone understands how special a week with a Bouncing Souls and Descendents record release is...I've listened to both multiple times and the old timers like me are ruling the week!

Thanks dude! I miss my old gig, but nothing gold can stay and I'll still hang out in these forums no matter where I happen to be situated in the world at the moment, haha. I'm getting to be super behind the times, but I did just listen to the new Direct Hit! and I love it.

New Souls and Descendents records are awesome. I have also really been digging the latest Ged Dead album. One of the lesser talked about punk bands, but I really enjoy them a lot.

Seriously cannot stop listening to new Descendents. I'm in love. New Souls is also very, very good. Direct Hit, Angel Du$t, Dirty Nil, PUP, and So So Glos also becoming regular albums in my summer rotation. I gotta throw new blink on every once in awhile, too. Music is playing a large role in my life right now to help get through some personal stuff, and I could not be happier with these albums all coming out this year.
