So like new BI has some of the best drumming of the year right?

 

It’s pretty legit

 

I saw Blood Incantation on the Starspawn album cycle and the drummer had me transfixed the entire set. Definitely made me a bigger fan after watching him drum live.

Granted, I'm a (wannabe) drummer so I'm generally watching the drummer when I see bands play live.

 

Do you have any favorite drummers, professional or amateur? Metal or non metal?

I can watch drum covers for days

 

George Koilos and Gene Hoglan both come to mind

 

Dave Bland from Full of Hell, Matt Wood from Vein and Matt Izzi from Homewrecker are all really fun to watch. I always dug Dave Lomardo. Hoglan is an all timer too.

Well, I know what my most anticipated release of 2020 will be.

Gotta shout out the hometown boys in Frozen Soul and Steel Bearing Hand. If they come to your town, please go see them. You'll be glad you did. Plus if you're lucky you might get to see Vomit Forth or Mutilatred, who are also both sick.

For informational purposes, Isaac from Blood Incantation also drums for Wayfarer, who are an awesome black metal band.

Well, shit. I didn't expect this one for at least another 2 years given their track record, but I'll take it nonetheless.

Doesn't Steel Bearing Hand also have a new record coming out soon? Kneel Before The Steel blew me away the first time I heard it. It reminded me of a punkier Bolt Thrower with a more black metal lean.

This is also a good reminder that I need to check out Frozen Soul. A buddy of mine in Chicago is a pretty big stan of theirs IIRC and has told me multiple times to check them out.

 

I believe Steel Bearing Hand does in fact have a new record coming out. It's been long enough. Frozen Soul just put out their debut EP/demo back in March, but they've been playing show nonstop ever since and they're working on a full length now. Both bands are worth your time. Frozen Soul has riffs but I feel like they're still building up to something bigger. They've got a small cult like local following, but I think after the full length drops you're gonna be hearing more about them nationwide. Maybe it's just local bias, but I feel like Maggot Stomp is gonna be pushing them pretty hard in 2020.

I believe I've established here before that I like everything they put out up to and including Colors. Alaska is a top 25 album all time for me. Plus Glass Casket was a jam back in the day.
