We'd love for you to learn more about us. We are a non-profit that works within music to improve the lives of LGBT+ musicians and fans. We bring HIV/STI testing to concerts and venues, advocate for, and support those coming out of the closet, us music to discuss important topics pertaining to LGBT+ issues, and, in general, go around and keep reminding people that being LGBT+ is punk as fuck.

Co-worker of mine said some transphobic shit today. Feels bad man. Managed to hold my tongue and save myself from the stress of talking to a brick wall, but just barely.

 

Ugh. That's the worst. We're sorry you had to deal with that. Did you not feel comfortable engaging this individual in conversation regarding transgender issues? Perhaps this person has never met, or engaged with, transgender people?

Indeed it is. Damn right I didn't feel comfortable with it - just based on knowing how these conversations tend to go. That, plus the amount of energy and effort I would be putting into it would be very tiring, not to mention stressful. Tense "debates" about these things wear me out something fierce.

The guy absolutely has never engaged with trans people in real life, I can tell that much. Hopefully he doesn't, with the attitude he expressed.

 

I'm really sorry you had to deal with this. I often wonder how much effort it would take to change someone's views on this. I mean, it's always possible that the person may actually be educable, but I'm sure it would be incredibly exhausting.

 

Completely agree. I'm sure there are some who are educable but 9 times out of 10, in my experience, they will not listen to reason. The things he said weren't directly hateful or bigoted, I'd say, but still highly insulting and worded in such a way as to make me think "yeah, this guy is definitely not going to listen if I try to counter him".

Take it from us...it's a lot of effort. But it's worth it.

 

The NBA has announced that it will be moving their 2017 All Star Game out of North Carolina because of the state's horrendous anti-transgender bill, HB2. This is amazing news and once again proves that discrimination does not pay off.

 

Best part is all the people pouting like children about it.
