It's a fantastic song, but should never be a closer.

 

Spotify doesn't have Luca (Reprise) so I rarely listen to it anymore :(

People can say what they want about Handcuffs, I think it wraps up the albums perfectly. I think Sowing Season is the only perfect opener on the album as well. That first opening lyric of Sowing ties in perfectly with a couple of the albums biggest concepts and sets everything up immediately (loss of loved ones, and more specifically the drunk driving accident). I don't believe in an alternate track listing, I simply don't believe in such witch craft

 

Heh, I do alternate track listings sometimes, and might still try the one for this album, but it's hard to imagine something other than Sowing Season and Handcuffs opening/closing the album.

 

I mean with this album specifically. Do what you must with others. There is no place for that here.

I've never understood this alternate track listing. I did it and to me, its weird.

Idk, maybe its because I'm just so used to how it flows naturally. I like it.

 

Sowing Season: I am on a mend, at least now I can say that I am trying

Handcuffs: It's hard to be the better man when you forget you're trying

Sowing Season: Losing all my friends. Losing some to drinking, some to driving

Handcuffs: I'd drive my car off of a bridge if I knew that you weren't inside

I've never listened to the "alternate" tracklisting for this, but I'll give it a try tomorrow with "Luca (Reprise)" tacked on at the end.

I've tried it with a few other albums (several variations on The Wonder Years' last record, swapping "Stay With Me" and "Black Honey" on Thrice's new one, and the vinyl tracklisting for Relient K's latest) but so far none have really stuck.

 

I remember people making alternate track listings to Oh, Common Life by Fireworks back on AP

 

Now that's just silly.

But thanks for reminding me to listen to that record again.

 

If I recall correctly, it was to put the title track on it and satisfied some people's complaint that Glowing Crosses was the opener. It was placed after One More Creature Dizzy With Love

I like glowing crosses as the opener, i don't like the title track at all much less as the opener

 

Yeah, it's on my vinyl and the same on one of my mates. Bought it the first time it was pressed, might have changed since then. Jesse's mentioned it in an interview somewhere I'm sure, he said Mike Sapone called him in the middle of the night and was like "You've gotta hear this!" and it was just loads of explosions in the song. Somehow that version got on the record.

Crazy, that one and 1996 were my favorite of the demos when they first leaked back in 2006 or whenever. I mean the reworked version is a different beast though. I'd put the reworked version up there with my favorites from their catalogue. I think all three reworked demos would be in my top ten all time favorite BN songs.

 

Probably a dumb question, but what the hell is he saying in verse two of the new "Brother's Song"? The part with "Just a few mother's sons, _____ but it's never gonna be enough." From live versions I thought it was "it's a shame" but on the studio version it sounds different, and I can't make it out.
