I watch a film like this and think "Where on Earth does $40 million go in a film like this?" Is it the salary of the cast? Or the majority into promotion? It's a pretty stellar cast, so I'm assuming a good chunk of it went into getting this cast.

 

I found this incredibly boring.

 

Interesting! Was it the pacing? Or the characters you didn't find interesting? Or the concept of a whodunnit-type story not being appealing you to? So weird how art can elicit such opposing viewpoints from different people

 

Mostly the cast and I’m sure Rian got a hefty payday after how well TLJ did financially. And a ton of promotion.

 

one thing that definitely didn't help was the guy next to me snoring, making it hard to concentrate. lol

I also saw the twist coming, but that may have been just the way people hyped it up. To me it felt a little too telegraphed.

I really liked the characters, I just wanted more of them. It felt like with a cast like that, we should have seen more of the heavy hitters. I wanted more Don Johnson lol

 

Salary of the cast. I assume those ornate sets did not come cheap. And probably the promotion.

 

Chris Evans post avengers is $$$$$

 

Saw the trailer a handful of times at most. For some reason the last time I saw it a couple of weeks ago before some other movie, Evans’ delivery of “Now tell me what happened to my grandfather” convinced me he was going to be the culprit. Glad it played out differently than I expected at least.

 

This was just delightful.

 

Really enjoyed this, the script and the cast are what makes this so good but I also love how it flips the whole whodunit genre on its head about halfway through without being jarring.

 

As a fan if TLJ, I’d still much rather Rian make more non-SW stuff instead.

 

This kept me guessing the whole way through and I was wrong every time haha

 

went to see this this weekend with my dad. we both had a blast. such a fun movie, the cast was fantastic. the way it was shot, gah, that zoom to Blanc sitting at the fire place. so many great moments. I would not be mad if his character got more murder mystery films and this became his franchise post Bond haha. speaking of Bond, can't wait for Ana De Armas in No Time To Die. She crushed it in this and was one of my favorite parts of Blade Runner 2049. brought so much to that character.

 

Can’t wait for the Benoit Blanc sequel where he has to compete with a rival detective to solve a mystery they were both hired to solve and they also have a romantic history together and the other detective is played by like Nicole Kidman or Mark Ruffalo or whoever

 

Would pay to see 2 hours of sexual tension between Benoit Blanc and Mark Ruffalo as, idk, Franc Merlot

 

I had no idea she was in No Time To Die. Hell yes!

 

apparently they had finished filming this by the time casting was happening for No Time To Die and Daniel Craig was super supportive of her getting the role after how impressed he was and how much fun they had.

side note. also lovvve the photo of them all hanging on the stairs and that apparently they all hung out throughout the shoot and very little time if any in separate trailers. just always nice to hear that.

 

Yeah Riki talked about on DLM how the trailers were a bit of a walk so the majority of the time they all just hung out in the basement of the house.

 

This kicked all of the ass, absolute riot

 

Saw this tonight and I'll have to watch both movies again but it's between this and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as my favorite of the year. I just loved everything about this movie, from the performances (particularly Ana, who is going to be a massive star and really deserves it, and Chris Evans, because I always love when he plays an asshole). Michael Shannon was great too and this movie also made me realize how much I like Don Johnson lol, he's underrated

Oh and Jamie Lee Curtis was great too, her acting in the scene where she's mad at Marta at the will reading was so good that I was genuinely really annoyed by her lol. Cool to see Riki Lindhome and Edi Patterson too but I really wish they got more to do, especially Riki


Random other thoughts:

- I figured that Ransom was the bad guy about the part where he and Marta were in the car together. For some reason the way he told her to check her emails convinced me it was him
- Absolutely LOVED the ending. So glad that the family was left broke and Marta got everything, she deserves the world
- The scene where Ransom tries to stab Marta was so wonderfully cheesy, which I took as an homage to the genre that this movie falls under, and the way he said "Shit" when he realized what happened was so funny

Just loved everything about this, I already want to see it again. Fully support a Benoit Blanc cinematic universe

 

re: the political parts-when richard calls marta into the room to make his point about immigration and talks her up as a great example, then non-chalantly hands her his empty plate, was so perfectly poignant.

 

That got a huge reaction in my showing.

 

I didn't notice the plate thing on my first watch. Great little detail.

 

This was fun. Blending the murder mystery aspects with “wrongly accused protagonist” thrills was good and I enjoyed the morality, it never became too much, though the overt political stuff worried me it might lean too far into moralizing.

I don’t think the movie went hard enough on the liberal daughter. It should have taken the Get Out approach to satirizing white liberalism and painted them all scathingly, I don’t love that she gets so easily forgiven.

Daniel Craig was so fun. I kind of wish there was 8% more Toni Collette.
