Carl is great as a lone guest like his Roscoe’s ep, but when he’s part of a panel I feel like he takes too much of a step back. Still one of my faves tho

 

Yeah at the Philly show I went to I definitely wished he had spoken more.

 

Apparently today's HDTGP gets pretty heavy.

 

it did, it was fantastic. Nick and Heather took it like total pros. not to minimize the mistake or anything, but they were very receptive and it was a good dialogue. Joey came very prepared and stated his entire feeling on the situation in a very eye opening way that colors a lot of other pod eps in a new light

i went in with no knowledge beyond the in-app ep description and i recommend it to any and everyone

i havent subbed to the Patreon since Jan. i love the show but ive gotten into so many others that i was struggling to find the time for Doubles. def resubbing for that.

that was a really good conversation, however guest aside, I gotta wonder what is the value of even covering a game like Custer's Revenge, or the thought process of making a game where the entire goal is to rape a native woman the subject of your Thanksgiving episode. I think greater thought should have gone into more than just the booking here

 

I don't think glossing over or ignoring something like Custer's Revenge is the right decision by any means. Like, I get HDTGP is ostensibly a comedy podcast but at the same time that doesn't mean they can't ever get serious or try to grapple with some of the darker moments in video gaming history on the show. Like it or not, Custer's Revenge is a thing that happened and pretending it didn't happen doesn't erase it from history. That said, there's a right way and a wrong way to approach heavy topics and they clearly went about it the wrong way this time.

Scheduling it for the week of Thanksgiving was a really dumb thing to do if only because it implies they're coming at it from a cheeky perspective instead of from a more serious one. They should have re-thought a lot about how they approached this topic because it's clear they didn't fully appreciate how they should have gone about it at all. But it's a lesson I don't think they'll forget, and they're both generally very thoughtful people who just made a big mistake here, so I'm confident they'll learn from it and be better next time.
