Wait Halo has a story?

 

Funny, the criticism towards Halo's presentation. Because Halo's presentation has always been the main reason anyone has connected to the story and world in the first place. Halo's narratives have never featured top notch writing. But it's never about that with games, especially in the AAA space. Sometimes, all you need is great presentation which Halo has always had in abundance.

Another good example is Titanfall 2. Bad story presented well, which is infinitely better than a good story presented badly.

 

For years now most AAA games now basically just use presentation to trick people into thinking they’re good

 

Nah, that would be stories. Good stories don't make games good. All about the gameplay baybee.

 

I think most of those stories aren’t good. Average to bad gameplay, average to bad stories, great presentation. You don’t have to tell me that gameplay is king. I have argued about this frequently here lol

RDR2 and every Naughty Dog game ;D

RDR2 has an excellent story and excellent gameplay(*gasp*), but I feel you on the Naughty Dog games. Get those wannabe movies out of my sight.

 

To be fair I can’t judge RDR2’s story because there is no universe in which I made it to the end. It’s probably fine.

The only issue I have with RDR2 is that it doesn't have a diegetic map. That's some bullshit right there.

Bioshock Infinite has decent gameplay, but hey, it's better than Bioshock's. It's no Bioshock 2 though, that's for sure. What a masterpiece.

 

Hard disagree, I think the presentation is pretty clumsy and it feels like the games pick strange times to try and do world building or dump exposition on you.

gameplay wise they’re stellar though and that’s what mainly kept me hooked

 

Halo 5 multiplayer was so good

 

Gears 5 and Jedi fallen order have legitimately gripping narratives.

 

Yeah I’ve been thinking about games of the last decade lately

 

Yeah I think the new Gears trilogy has actually been doing a solid job so far in that regard, which was a pleasant surprise

 

This isn't a "i disagree" or "i agree" situation. This is me hitting you with knowledge. Presentation is legit the only reason there are massive amounts of Halo lore nerds. You can dislike the presentation all you want, but there's a reason Halo's world has struck a chord with so many people and it ain't because of the writing.

I once read a Fable novel that was a surprisingly great fantasy novel lol

 

So much knowledge, fellas. So much.

 

And I disagree. There’s a lot of people that do genuinely like the writing and the characters and the world. I’m just not one of them. For some im sure the presentation is exactly what they want but for me it comes across as dull and lifeless
