putting short songs on here fucked me up

 

Never really “got” this band. Every few years I’ll try with them because I feel like their longevity has to mean something, but I always wind up finding them to be super middle of the road at best. I’ll check out Wind this week since I haven’t heard that one and it seems to be doing well here, maybe it’ll change my mind

Side note why did they name an album Arrivals & Departures and then have another album with integral tracks named Arrivals and Departures six years later? Is there a relation there?

 

If anything it’s just a cool nod to their past. Wind Shifts is the start of a new era for the band, with Paul Marc replacing longtime guitar player Neil Boshart during the writing process.

Thematically, the album’s first seven tracks pair together with the final seven. So “Arrivals” is paired with “Departures” just as “On Brave Mountains We Conquer” is paired with “In Silent Seas We Drown.”

 

This one is tough for me. Waterfront is the album that got me into this band, so it's probably my favorite, but it's definitely not their best; that goes to Wind Shifts or Dead Reflection.

Agree about Arrivals. That album always got a ridiculous amount of undeserved hate. People don't seem to hate it AS much now though? So yay?

 

I chose Shipwreck. It was the last record I really cared about from this band and one I spent a decent amount of time with. I think my taste started to veer away from the style of post-hardcore they play but I also just never went out of my way to seek out their records past that one and maybe I'd like some of them if I actually sat down and gave them a proper listen.

Bump to say I will forever ride for A Shipwreck in the Sand as their masterpiece.

 

My favorite is This Is How The Wind Shifts, but Shipwreck is second and is still a masterpiece.

 

Discovering the Waterfront gang forever.

 

He became a much better singer after that record, but I still love it.

 

Wind Shifts for me. I wish his singing/the production on DTW was better because the songs absolutely ripped the other day on the stream.

 

Best Silverstein album, for me, definitely Dead Reflection. I might vote Redux 2 depending on the day but it's kinda cheating being a compilation and all. Wind Shifts would be a close second.

 

This Is How The Wind Shifts is my favorite album of all time, but I'm biased cause it was the first heavy album I ever heard. Dead Reflection was really important to me at the time it came out too, however.

 

When Broken Is Easily Fixed

 

I forgot Wind Shifts was such a comeback after Rescue and Short Songs. I really thought they were out of gas until that record, so I sort of get how it holds such a special place.
