Deja really needs more love. I just feel like there was nothing else like it when it came out

2003 was a great year for emo, even if almost none of it sounded the same. I love Deja. But Devil and God & Daisy blow it out of the water as much as I love it.

Personally, I think Daisy is solely their best and I'm not just trying to be controversial.

Me too. But it's cool that anyone could make an argument for any of their albums and even if we disagree it could be completely understandable.

No, it makes sense. I think one of the thoughts I was having was reading how desperate some people are seeming for this new album, yet they hate 50% of their albums. To go a step further I see lots of hate for IAAN. So they also hate 50% of the released singles. Just seems like half of these folks are gonna be bummed when, this album is released.

valid, i just think that Daisy is like Devil and God themes taken to a more sonic "extreme" and so I see them almost as companion works in my head. I think Devil and God is top to bottom better at balancing dynamics than Daisy buuut Daisy is also just really intense and the way that it plays with dynamics suits the themes better anyway. Lot to love here.

Ultimately both great albums. I don't hate any of the 4 though and would probably rank YFW above Deja..

wild. I mean. YFW has hooks I guess. and Soco. Moshi Moshi is a great b side? lol idk if i have anything i could really say that would put it above Deja for me but y'know, different strokes and such. You have a reason or is it just a sound you prefer?

I think it's just a matter of timing. YFW was the first album of theirs I owned (it actually has the alternate artwork), so I was a bit against the drastic change in sound when Deja came out. Also, probably just influenced by life at the time, but the lyrics on Deja just came off as whiny at first listen. Nowadays I respect Deja, I think at the time I was trying to be the "cool guy" that wasn't jumping on the Deja train so I would listen to YFW over and over and listening to those songs just takes me back

I can understand that. YFW takes me back too, but in the bad "wow i sucked real bad" way. the lyrics on some of the songs have always made me feel weird.

Shone is Vinny and his brother's band, p much. His brother is the lead singer. They played a few shows. They're on youtube i think

I might be in the minority camp where I really only love TDAG and Daisy. I got into Brand New pretty late in the game though and wasn't really into pop punk when I heard YFW and have no nostalgia attached to Deja. I don't like much off YFW, but I get Soco and the live videos of No Seatbelt song look rad, and I dig the way they play some of the songs off Deja now but I'm not really into a large part of that album.

Yeah, my expectations are pretty low myself haha. But (and I forget who said it) one user here mentioned how he didn't like "At The Bottom" upon release but ended up loving Daisy, and I'm hoping the same happens with this album for me. But still keeping expectations low while knowing their place in my life won't be tarnished if the album isn't great. Then again, I'm not too extreme for Brand New so I guess I'm not who's being referred to hahaha.

When Out Of Range first appeared online people thought it was Jesse, Vin, and Vin's brother singing and that it was just a random demo, but I guess since it's an official bside under Brand New it's just Jesse and Vinny

Deja came out when i was a fuckin freshman in highschool. i remember downloading jude law on kazaa or limewire or some shit and being absolutely blown away. i was some asshole kid listening to nfg and blink records on his walkman, and this was unlike anything i'd heard before. i was sold.

the day deja came out, i walked down to the mall with my best friend and bought it at FYE. we went back to his place and listened to it in his room in silence. we really didn't say a word to each other. we just sat there in awe as each song played through.

i'll never get a first listen at an album like that again.

deja was unlike anything i'd ever heard before. i remember sitting at my computer playing me vs maradona vs elvis over and over again, skipping back to the "this is the grace only we can bestow" nearly in tears as the chills ran up my spine

everyone has "that" record that completely impacted their lives in a way that they can't really describe. deja was that album for me.

Really, only quoting for this part..but yeah. There were a few girls that i knew that went to the BN/MM show in Chicago only went because they knew Sic Transit from high school....Well, they were so disappointed in the show because they weren't what they remembered.....I was like...well? obviously.

    Ugh.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Top 5 Brand New song for me. The desperation in the repition of "lie to all your friends" as if the subject is trying to convince themselves it's okay always crushes me. Plus, it sounds like no other song they've ever written...track you can absolutely melt to. I seriously will never understand how this is one of their most hated songs.

Bed is amazing. I've touched before on how Daisy accents the drastic shifts of unsettling chaos and quiet anxiousness. Bed perfectly paints the later. The point is that it's not supposed to go anywhere. It creeps along, it lurks around, it fades away. It coming right after Vices gives the perfect shock to the listener and is a focus on what Daisy is supposed to represent. It coming before At The Bottom makes for a perfect sequence into that track. The transition into At The Bottom is something that always leaves me satisfied. I love the guitar work on that song.

I think I might be in the minority that every single song on Daisy is important to the context of the record and improves the album as a whole. I have a lot of love for that record. It's my second favorite album Brand New has ever put out.

Daisy's strength is its context, the fact that every song fits seamlessly together, and it's why it's my favorite album. The Devil And God has stronger high points in my opinion, but as an album it isn't as fluid as Daisy is. But anyone could make the argument otherwise and it'd be valid.

Daisy is a masterpiece. Like, I remember seeing The Devil and God being hyped up more than people hype Adele's voice over on Absolutepunk and buying the album and liking it, but not thinking it was like a top 5 album ever made like users there did. Then I got Deja and was a little more underwhelmed, and then I got Daisy and it basically blew my mind. Like, Daisy is what Absolutepunk made TDAG out to be for me.
