Is anyone confident enough that they can compile a top ten horror film list for this year yet? Just that looking ahead for what is left of the year I can't see any new horror films coming out and anything I do want to see is unlikely to become available for rental or streaming either. Been a great year overall having watched thirteen in total and I'd be surprised if next year managed to top this one.

  3. Best: Midsommar
Top Tier: Doctor Sleep, The Lighthouse, Us
Middle Tier: Happy Death Day 2U, Little Monsters, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
Bottom Tier: It Chapter Two, The Perfection, Brightburn, Velvet Buzzsaw

Still need to see The Nightingale, but I think that's the last of the horror movies I'm interested in this year. Considering I have AMC A-List and I still missed them (i.e. didn't put in the effort to see them), I'm probably not gonna get around to Crawl, Ma, or Pet Semetary.

  5. Yeah. This probably goes without saying, but "bottom tier" = "did not like." And even if The Nightingale makes Top or Middle that's still <10.

  6. Oh God, I think I blocked out The Perfection lol just a terrible experience

...I think The Perfection was great

I did completely forget that Velvet Buzzsaw existed though.

Glad I'm not alone, I enjoyed The Perfection.

Still haven't even gone out of my way to watch Velvet Buzzsaw

Midsommar and The Lighthouse are the only two I’ve seen this year that I feel like had an impactful impression on me. Us had potential, but it fell flat for me, too much imagery that couldn’t connect in a meaningful way. The rest of this year’s movies were entertaining to a varied degree, but nothing else stands out. I still need to see Doctor Sleep, Im excited for that one. But I don’t have anything else I’m anticipating highly this year.

This year has been a little on the light side compared to previous years I feel like.

edit: I still need to watch The Nightingale too. I’m looking forward to that one too.

    4. Midsommar
    5. Happy Death Day 2U

    9. Annabelle Comes Homes
    10. Pet Sematary

My top ten as of now but if I get the chance to see anything else that impresses me then it is likely to change but no horror film I've seen from this year has made for a bad or majorly disappointing experience.

The Lighthouse is my favorite film of the year. and tho there are facets of horror throughout, I’d hardly call it a horror movie
Midsommar was good but there's just something missing for me to truly be on board with it
    Haunt was pretty great
Luz was an impressive debut, but like Midsommar, there were just things that were missing for me. I can't wait to see what the director does next tho
Little Monsters was fun but there's nothing really noteworthy or remarkable about it
The Perfection was a complete piece of shit
and I think that's about the extent of my horror watching this year, all in all a mixed bag

    I was right. Prestigious

of the horror movies I’ve seen this year, top three are definitely Midsommar, The Lighthouse and Us
Crawl and Ma were both ridiculous but entertaining
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was enjoyable for what it was (“entry level horror”)
Hole in the Ground was fine
It 2 had some good moments but also a lot of stuff I wasn’t a fan of
and I know I’m alone in this but I hated Happy Death Day 2 U

I haven’t really seen enough but I would say Midsommar, Us, The Lighthouse, and Hagazussa for me. Also, has anyone seen Climax? I’ve seen that mentioned in a lot of early best-of lists.
