I always offer but then they say no. If they've done it too many times I feel weird tho and genuinely get annoyed and go over their head to pay. And none of that cutesy play fighting over the bill to annoy the cashier. I need a guy to pay at least once tho to see how he tips

I always split the bill on the first date. It dissolves whatever pressure or expectation of reciprocity that is is embedded in the norms of late capitalist mating rituals. After that, it is usually more of a taking turns dynamic typically.

20% tip at least. Sometimes it gets rounded up if I don't have change.

If i invite, I will pay. If she invites, i'll offer. I won't make too much of a deal out of it.

Is less than 20% normal? I usually do 20% minimum too haha, 20% for bad service and 25% for average.

I just do 20% because it's easy to calculate (just divide by 5)

Yeah I never do less than 20%. I do over if the bill is small or the person was amazing. If they sucked which is rare I round down to stick it to the man.

I rarely go out to eat now tho. I need an eating buddy

If 20% is something like $2.60, I'll leave $3. Unless I'm paying with a card, then I'll write $2.60. That mostly applies to a small total, AKA me grabbing breakfast alone. I rarely have change on me, hence the upping.

I think 15% is average. Id add you into my previous post but I can't type out your name after the @.

I always thought 20 was average, interesting, I didn't know that

I think of 15% as an acceptable minimum but I usually just base it off 20% and maybe give a little extra. My tabs are usually small anyway so it doesn't make much difference

Hmm. Interesting. Thanks for explaining that.
20% is always the default listed on receipts/digital things to leave for a tip. Then again, tipping is ridiculous and the employees should just be paid a wage for what their worth.
I had terrible service tonight -- no silverware, no water for 20 minutes, came to take our order, never came back to check up on us despite my food being cold and just not a pleasant demeanor -- but working in the service industry is fucking tough. I always tip 20% (as I did tonight) because I don't know what the server went through all day. Maybe they're pulling a double; maybe they have money troubles or the business they're working at is struggling or closing down or they just had a downright shitty day. Maybe they're just very new at the job of being a server. I couldn't imagine leaving a scolding message on some paper for a stranger, simply because they weren't up to my standards of delivering food. I bartend and I know if someone left me a message on the receipt for me, I wouldn't handle it well and it would impact how I serve the rest of the night and not in a good way.

Instead of leaving shitty notes for bad service, leave great notes for the good/great servers. Let them know you appreciate all they do for under $3 an hour.

What the hell happened in here the last few days??

  19. :sly::sly::sly: Did you really have to respond with "hmm interesting"?? Like I'm wrong for feeling that way, like I should be on the same page as everyone else. Like I'm not allowed to have those views for myself. Thats pretty fucked up. I didn't owe you an explanation and I shouldn't have had to explain myself, so you're not welcome. There is nothing "interesting" about my feelings on the subject.

Don't leave a note at a regular spot bc servers don't forget the faces of people who do that. You'll get shit service if you get any service at all.

I understand your frustration considering how the thread has turned out. But if someone doesn't want to keep arguing, they won't, which is probably (can't speak for Mike, I'm just guessing here) why they said thanks and left it at that. Sometimes, people have to agree to disagree or don't have a particular opinion. Considering the subject matter, it's not as serious as people are making it out to be. It's also hard to express clearly what you mean via text so misunderstandings are incredibly common. I'm sorry that you're upset about it. It would have been better if people were a little less aggressive/sarcastic which is why I intervened earlier. Feel free to PM me if you need to.

    It's best to drop it.
