Yeah, that scene was pretty cringy. I was already rolling my eyes because I was being made to sit through another Batman origin so the bat scene just prolonged the eye rolling.

That's what i was expecting at first too but i'm sure that scene will leak eventually.

Was anyone else a little irked that Thomas Wayne tried to fight Joe Chill during the montage sequence? I always thought Nolan's Thomas Wayne being cool and collected and trying to de-escalate the mugging made for a much better characterization of Thomas Wayne

They should make a Flashpoint version of Thomas Wayne.

  6. It was such an over the top melodramatic scene with the gun and pearls that I didn't even notice that part. I was more steeling myself for the inevitable slow motion pearl drop.

You really should it was one of the better Flashpoint tie-ins honestly.

Zack Snyder certainly has a flair for mellowdrama. The movie could have been 25 minutes shorter if they got rid of half the slow motion shots. I swear I took a power nap waiting for Superman to land with the damaged space shuttle during the montage.

This movie is like if someone took a bunch of food that I love and put it in a blender with no regard for what works together and what doesn't. Zack Snyder pretty much thinks that since people like peanut butter, and people like lasagna, people should LOVE peanut butter lasagna.

It reminds of that episode of Friends where Rachel messes up the trifle and the only person that likes it is Joey.

I still have hope that this movie gets some of the plot holes filled with the Ultimate Cut. This movies doesn't make me excited for Justice League. It makes me excited for the standalone Batman film.

I like the way the Batman origin story was done. Obviously we've seen it over and over, and I think the effect of doing it in a heavy opening montage instead of just passing the scene all over again, or skipping over it completely, was to set the mood for Bruce's character.

But then, I enjoyed the movie overall more than most

The idea of sitting through an even longer version of this movie is giving me hives. It was so excruciating the first time around.

However, Affleck does have a history playing superheros in movies where the director's cut vastly improves on the original (see Daredevil).

I think it was well done for the most part, from a cinematic perspective, but you know what I would have loved to see? Instead of his origin, show us a montage the past 20 years of Batman's career. Fighting criminals, Robin dying, becoming reclusive, and ultimately the violent vigilante we meet at the beginning of the movie.

It would have made his character motivations so much more tangible.

I'm guessing Robin dying will be in the standalone film?

That's a good idea and probably would've worked really well. It immediately makes he think of the opening montage of Watchmen.

Honestly, I would have just cut out the origin, not add a montage, and start with the Metropolis stuff. The double prelude was my first hint that the pacing would be terrible.

Starting with the Metropolis scene would've been so much more effective. I also don't think the movie gave Lois enough credit for her part in the storyline. She went through some serious trauma at the beginning of the movie and then got shit done to get it resolved and it all felt like it was presented as an afterthought. Kind of "Here, have some scenes with Lois" when it really could've been tied in and made a more significant part of the movie

Double post, and I'm sure some will roll their eyes at this article, but this explains what I've felt like I couldn't say on the matter pretty well.
Why Supergirl Is a Better Superman Story Than Batman v Superman
Let’s do a quick recap of what Snyder’s Superman does in Batman v Superman and its predecessor, 2013’s Man of Steel. While fighting a flying foe, he casually tosses the baddie into populated buildings over and over, killing thousands in the process. At the end of that conflict, he brutally murders his enemy. He shows no grief about all the lives he’s ended and tells the government to stay out of his way in the future. When a terrorist holds his girlfriend at gunpoint, rather than speeding over to take the gun away or shooting it with his heat vision, he gleefully slams the man through a brick wall. After some slight public criticism, he comes close to giving up on humanity entirely. During a dispute with Batman over a misunderstanding, he barely tries to convince the Dark Knight to lay down his arms, opting instead to beat the crap out of him. This is supposed to be our inspirational hero? "I’m a comic book guy and I made the movie based as much as I could on that aesthetic,” Snyder recently said. I’m not sure what Superman comics he’s been perusing, but they’re certainly not any I’ve ever read.
Now, let’s look at what happened in that Red Kryptonite episode ofSupergirl. Before the sinister substance appears, we get a sweet scene where Supergirl notices a schoolgirl getting bullied and swoops down to cheerfully defend her by telling her bullies that she and the girl are best buds — demonstrating that all injustices deserve her attention. Then, with Supergirl acting irresponsibly while affected by the Red Kryptonite, Cat issues a public address about how we can’t trust the Maid of Might — and unlike Batman’s similar monologues in Batman v Superman, we’re supposed to be saddened, not titillated, by this paranoia. When Supergirl is finally cured, the first thing she says upon waking is, “Did I kill anyone?” That is, of course, what a Superman figure would worry about most.

Yea, that bugged me too. Little changes like that really change how you view a character and this was not for the better. But I hated Pa Kent too, so whatever.
