To act like Matty doesn’t know about Jesse/Brand New, isn’t consistent with the general views of this thread. Pinegrove maybe, but not the former.

And to think there aren’t thousands of young kids who see his story and would take that as an OK to check out that band who they actually don’t know about is intentional ignorance.

 

Okay so what do you actually expect to get done then? What is the end goal here? To get Matty to stop listening to these bands?

 

I know zero people in my real life that know about either. Zero. If you wanna tell him on Instagram or Twitter or whatever, go for it, explain it and send him links. Spreading awareness is good, and there’s lots of links in this thread to use. But this weird attacking people in this thread for not immediately going off on a guy for posting that he listened to some songs isn’t helpful to anyone.

 

but if any of us posted on this message board that they still regularly listen to either band, they’d probably get attacked.

 

How much reporting was there on the Brand New thing anyway? Was there anything anywhere other than like, Pitchfork? Feel like anyone who isn't particularly online has no way of knowing about it

Shit bands getting free promotion from a HUGE, influential artist who absolutely does know about Jesse and what not, unless Matty just discovered them on his own (highly doubtful)

No one is attacked but how about a little consistency with our views on artists and their platforms, even if they’re your favorite.

 

Why is New Found Glory & Blink-182 still getting promoted on this site?

I think being like "That really sucks" and like trying to reach out if you think he doesn't know is fair for the time being

Moral of the story is jumping to be like "he's a scumbag" is what's shitty and we prob SHOULD show consistency in how we approach cases like that before blowing people up

But also we're all different people so who's to say people aren't being consistent (or better yet that people aren't growing and changing how they approach things for the better etc), hard to treat Chorus as a unit of people

But obviously people on this site do not always "defend" their favorites though? Brand New was a lot of people's favorites round here, and I mean, a lot of users did not rush to "defend" them.

I saw somebody post his story screenshot, was like wow why the fuck is Matty promoting these guys? Right below that, somebody points out that no one ever commented on or mentioned that he posted Brand New the week before. Surely at least ONE of us saw his Instagram story and said nothing. I like the 1975 too, but it’s fucking shitty and irritating to see Matty posting them to his fan base. He might as well caption it “listen to this band.”

Not alright, and it came across very quickly that no one wants to say it’s shitty or look at him the way we do most apologists and enablers. So I spoke up. My apologies if you feel attacked, not my intention.
