He played in Cleveland a few weeks ago...All the shows sold out immediately. The club never promoted it, but had a quote in the paper defending their decision saying something like 'we book shows based off demand' or some bullshit.

    Wildly disappointing.

It's always great when the only thing you can think of to explain your disgusting, indefensible decision is to rely on The Capitalism Defense™

The way he attacks Sepinwall for basically daring to ask the question is insane. And then he doubles back on it later like “now I’m not saying these women’s feelings aren’t valid.” Umm, yes, you are.

he literally solicited a minor for sex lmfao how do men sleep at night telling themselves these lies to protect their friendships?

Not to mention, wasn't the woman he forced to perform oral sex on him someone who he had cast in one of his movies? Or someone who was trying to get cast in one of them? Like come on.

The part where he INSISTED that there would have been no way for them to make a commentary on the male gaze without having JAMES FRANCO still personally involved almost made my head explode. As if his continued presence wasn’t undermining their message at every turn.

I was also shocked at how much of that interview ended up being about Simon himself. Like without even being asked a few times he goes into a lot of pretty frightening detail about himself and the safety level on the show, particularly in season one. I’ve already been hugely disappointed in him for keeping Franco on, but after reading that I just feel completely gross.

He also gets SO close to stating exactly why having Franco still involved was a despicable decision, but then just backtracks and says he’s proud of him. Like he can tell a detailed anecdote about how a young actor on his show might not have been comfortable with something that happened on set and been even less comfortable voicing those concerns to him, but at no point does it occur to him that having Franco continue to be involved would fall under that exact pattern of making people uncomfortable who don’t have the power to say so??

I love Maggie so much and I hate that this show is forever tainted. I’ve gone back and forth at different times about watching the last two for everyone else involved and how they tackled those themes, but I’m just kidding myself. There’s no way I could get anything from it other than disgust at both of them now.

so fuckin bad. The fact that he sets the tone by bullying Sepinwall with that little "What's the difference between the other Me Too situations and Franco? I know the answer, I'm just seeing if you do -- what an idiot you are I can't believe I have to tell you the answer, wow, guess I have to explain to the simpletons" intro......and then his actual explanation is the flimsiest bullshit ever.....yikes. No longer have respect for Simon.

I'd be interested to hear Emily Meade's take on this. She spearheaded the intimacy coordination with this show, and expanded it to other HBO shows it seems.

He clearly thinks that, having already made his bed by not dumping Franco after season 1 when he should have, all that’s left is to double down on defending him.
