I try to avoid trailers whenever I can, and rely on word of mouth to hear about new movies. Super excited for this one

i may get better but we won't ever get well Prestigious

i can understand why to a degree. it's been a long time since i watched it so i may hate it, but it was extremely stripped down, perhaps even to a fault - but i'm actually really interested in paying attention to the lighting and framing because i don't think that's something i would have appreciated, that may be better absorbed now to reevaluate having decently liked it several years ago.

Just got back from seeing The Purge, not too different from the last one but still very enjoyable

The Strangers was my favorite home invasion film. By far. Came out back when the sub genre was still budding, so it didn't need any gimmicks to set it apart. The film opening by telling you the couple doesn't survive was crazy for me. You never got to think they'd make it out at the end. Pure hopelessness as you watch these people being toyed with then eventually killed. Brutal film.

I thought Liv lived or did I misinterpret the ending and my life is a lie??

I like the turning point in home invasion movies when the characters dgaf and start being badasses but then it just reminds me that I'm not that intelligent or clever and I'd really just be the dumbass who shoots Dennis Reynolds.

I just read a synopsis, and I'm apparently misremembering a few details. Liv does survive it seems, and the opening just says two bodies were found covered in blood. Doesn't say they were dead. My bad!

I lovvvved Critters growing up haha. It's crazy how that's one of Leo's first films.

  8. The Strangers is a weird one because I always enjoy watching it but mostly because I tend to forget large chunks of that film. If we're being honest, You're Next is probably my favorite home invasion film of the past decade. Smart, well-scored, and darkly humorous.

    Still haven't seen Critters, haha.

Wow I'm surprised you haven't seen it. Obviously everyone has those films that they just never got around to. If anyone is ever questioning what to watch, I'd want this to be at the top of any horror fan's list. Not everyone likes it as much as I do, but it's a great jumping point when discussing the sub genre that's still just as relevent today as when it started.

This. I've found that with a lot of movies that I loved when I was younger but revised recently though.

I didn't really get into horror besides a few movies here and there until 2012 or so. I'm still catching up on movies from that time period

Yeah so far 1408 may be the only movie that's held up for me from younger years. Also I'll fight you if you think it's a bad movie

Just watched The Invitation... Crazy suspenseful. Just one question about the ending... Were all those red lanterns indicating a coordinated cult suicide pack in the neighborhood?

Yea definitely. Towards the end of the movie, it was killing me waiting to find out what was going to come of the random people (who we didn't actually see) who knocked on the door, but were looking for the wrong party. I kept thinking they were going to show up at the end and kill off any stragglers that might get close to escaping. I felt the ending was more effective than just having something as simple as that. Much more chilling to see things more wide spread than just isolated to the one home.

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

Can't believe how many people really enjoy The Strangers. I thought it was awful. I've never though much of Liv Tyler as an actress, and this flick played a large role in molding that opinion.

I really wanted to like it too. The previews had me sold. Almost as big of a letdown as Spider-Man 3 was, it terms of disappointment following an outstanding trailer.

    Watch You're Next instead.

Yeah, I hated The Strangers when I watched it in theaters. I never understood the hype here. But sometimes I think maybe I just wasn't as into horror in 2008.

Just finished watching it a few minutes ago! After Blue Ruin and this, I'll be looking forward to whatever Jeremy Saulnier does in the future
