I guess a problem I have is that I don't stay in touch with anybody. I have a few people I've added on Facebook or LinkedIn and I can ask them for permission, which feels awkward because it's not like we talk and maybe they don't like me anyway

Of the 4 references I normally use, I've gotten permission from two of them directly within the past two years, one is friends with my mom so I just asked her, and one is a coworker I didn't ask
