This movie was fine, good. Super slow in the beginning. Joaquin was obviously incredible and I’m sure he’ll get awards recognition, rightfully so. But the movie itself is just good. Todd Phillips is a dork tho and the “comedy” portions of this movie were terrible

It has no politics. It references politics of several kinds. But it has nothing to say about any of it.

Also the scene of the Waynes getting murdered HAD to have been added last minute right? That felt so random

  5. The way more interesting bit of this piece (that I posted like.....5 posts up from yours O:-)) is here:

“We were worried that Joker would inspire people in the wrong ways, and by the way, we’re still not quite off the hook for that. It remains strange that in an era like ours, which prizes relatability to the point of rendering everything alien, we should be so worried over people doing exactly what we keep asking mainstream art to make us do: relate. The mere idea that human lives might depend on an audience getting the right message from a film like Joker feels like the logical extreme of a culture that can apparently only make sense of art by making it about ourselves.”

You wouldn't say "kill the rich" and other class related uprising isn't leftist?

I'm just genuinely curious because I've been having discussions with people about these specific elements of the film.

The movie doesn't necessarily condone the eat the rich mentality, Arthur isn't politically motivated and given the fact that Todd said people are too liberal and PC nowadays I can't help but think he was calling antifa clowns essentially

This was pretty good. Joaquin is fantastic as I hoped and expected, so I've gotten everything I wanted from this movie. Might watch it again if it hits Netflix

The protesters in this are like out of Bill O’Reilly novel. They can only be mobilized by murder and just want more death. Their signs are super generic and they’re also cop killers.

reading what people are saying it kinda appears that way now what with the generic occupy wallstreet element

I'm sorry if what I said was framed as thinking the movie or its makers condone a particular mentality. Obviously what we see in the movie isn't propaganda level insanity. But, the social environment of this Gotham merely showed a majority whom were disenfranchised with their back against a wall (I wish we got more scenes delving into the public affected as a whole).

EDIT: I remember being delightfully surprised with the scene where Arthur is told funding has been cut. The therapist expressing her distaste in how she felt was something I didn't expect.

It was reported that Phillips would re-write the script over night so

Movie easily could've done without the Waynes being killed. Fan service is a hell of a drug.

I was hoping to just wait until I could torrent this but the extremely varied reactions to it make me want to see it more than the movie itself lol

They threw in familiar phrases and imagery, but it’s all surface level; any actual political/social commentary is non-existent.

Amber said, in a recent episode dedicated to the film, that it had, quote, "perfect politics," lol.

I think some leftists take such (justifiable) issue with the terrible media shitstorm about this movie potentially inciting/inspiring violence that they’re trying to claim this as a leftist movie to spite the whole ordeal and the shitty liberals who perpetuated it. I get it, except the movie isn’t interesting or purposeful enough to claim it in any ideals name.

Someone remake this film, except it's Leto becoming the Joker after feeling alienated about this Joker.
