A few listens through, and while I do enjoy certain moments in some songs quite a bit, I’m not feeling the album. Maybe it’ll grow on me, but then again, LU2D hasn’t

Regardless, I’m happy so many people seem into it, especially fans who drifted off after Sainthood

Really enjoyed the Colbert interview - he seemed to genuinely enjoy them as guests (can sometimes tell when Colbert just doesn’t get the guest or wants the interview end ASAP).

On another note, I love this album start to finish. It’s a perfect blend of the pop sound and the earlier stuff. Even a month after I first heard the title track, I still tear up uncontrollably when Tegan’s chorus part for Hey, I’m Just Like You comes in. I just love it so much.

There is also part of me hopes / wishes they release a deluxe edition where we get to hear some of the original tape recordings for these. Like I know they said they used them as the source material for this album, but if you listen to their early albums, there is no way those recordings were this pop-sounding.

no surprises but this is real real good. Even the "hello, hello, hello" part of Hello, I'm Right Here that initially kind of threw me off grew on me after a second listen. And that was the only section on the album I was unsure of, everything else was ace

  7. In all seriousness, this show felt really special. I know they're known for their banter in between songs, but the fact that they read from their book and showed footage of themselves as teenagers made this feel even more intimate. Plus the fact that everyone had to put their phones away.

Both times I've seen them have been acoustic-y; I wasn't aware of that before buying the ticket either time. Guess I got lucky.

Everyone at the show got a copy of the book. I'd pre-ordered the book on Amazon and was already like 80% through it. Now I have two of them. Which reminds me of another funny story: I'd bought The Con at Amoeba Music twice, the second time because it was the edition that came with the DVD--except the CD was missing--so now I have an extra case for The Con.

Are they doing the phones away thing for the whole tour? For some reason I thought it was just for the shows before the album was out. That’s really cool if it’s for the whole tour!

  9. Yeah, they're doing no phones for as long as they're doing this format for the show. Most likely next tour will be back to normal, phones out, full band, and no readings, etc.

The audiobook includes a lot of the original recordings in between chapters! They usually are just guitar and vocals. I do hope they see the light as a separate release someday.

Did anybody in here get a preorder bundle and if so has it shipped? I was hoping to have received it on release day but they haven't even shipped it yet...

Really enjoyed the tour. Felt very intimate and special since it was just the two of them and no phones. Was neat to hear the origins of a lot of the songs on the record, which I guess they did write when they were in high school because they'd be like, 'and this is the song I wrote for girl X when I was 15' which is wild because the songs are great.

I think them showing themselves at such a vulnerable time was very cathartic for a lot of the crowd, especially those of the LGBTQ community.

Wondering this same thing. I got a huge bundle. I’m getting impatient especially for the book

I emailed their webstore just to see if I could get an update and the automatic message said this...

Maybe this explains the delay? Somebody from AUS told me theirs shipped so maybe it's a US warehouse issue.

  15. idk, I pre-ordered the CD and book separately through a free trial of Amazon Prime and got them on their respective days of release.

They were handing out books to everyone at the show, though, if you're going to that. Just gotta have them mark your ticket (or the slip they give you with your seat number after they seal up your phone). I wonder if a lot of people who preordered are ending up with duplicates, or if they just decide not to take one at the show.

Also, they're gonna be on Lilly's show tonight! (I'm guessing it was taped yesterday, I think Lilly's vlogged that they do multiple eps a day sometimes)

Cameron Esposito brought Tegan and Sara onto her podcast together (they had both been on previously individually) to discuss their new book, album, and a lot of the process and emotions during the experience. It was honestly a great listen and very insightful, made me appreciate how important the album is to them that much more. They also discussed a lot about how they were perceived in their early career by fans and critics alike and how this process has felt like they were reclaiming some of the things they felt wronged on and I thought that was really cool.

Man, I forgot how dismissive many of those 00’s reviews were, especially the 3.4 score Pitchfork write-up for So Jealous.

Honestly, a lot of men in their 30's and 40's writing reviews on the music of young adult women processing their queerness and personal traumas, pretty sad in hindsight but was far too commonplace back then. It's not like we don't still have issues now but it's more nuanced than that at least.

Lindsey and Tegan are partners, right?

But yeah, agreed. Her Hayley Williams shoots are always rad.
